David Benioff (born circa 1970 in New York City) is an American writer.

He worked as club bouncer, until he won recognition for his book, 25th Hour. He later adapted the book into a film, starring Edward Norton and directed by Spike Lee. Thus began his career as a Hollywood screenwriter. He adapted a screenplay of the mythological epic, Troy (2004). He also sold the two-million-dollar script, Stay. The film was released on the 21st of October 2005, was directed by Marc Forster, and starred Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.

These days he is working on a script for the X-Men spin-off, Wolverine, and The Kite Runner, a film based on a book bearing the same name (this will mark his second collaboration with director Marc Forster).

Benioff is a Dartmouth College alumnus. Additionally, he attended the University of California Irvine and received a Masters in the creative writing program.
