David Yow is an American musician born in Las Vegas Nevada August 2, 1960. He was a co-founder of the Austin, Texas rock group Scratch Acid. Yow originally played bass guitar, then switched to vocals before Scratch Acid relocated to Chicago, Illinois. When that group dissolved, Yow and Scratch Acid bass player David Wm. Sims formed The Jesus Lizard.
Yow achieved wide noteriety for playing shows completely drunk and incoherent and it was not uncommon for him to remove his clothing during Jesus Lizard concerts, often ending up completely naked by the second or third song and sometimes subjecting the audience to manouvers known as "The Hairy Tangerine" and "The Tight and Shiny." The Jesus Lizard eventually landed a spot on the Lollapalooza tour, with little commercial success.
Yow and Scratch Acid recently performed a series of reunion shows in Austin (09/02/06), Chicago (09/09/06), and Seattle (09/16/06).
Yow has also appeared live with other bands, including Cop Shoot Cop, Shellac, The Melvins, and has contributed vocals to various albums and recordings by Helmet, The Melvins, Model/Actress, and others.
Yow also has an extensive resume of graphic design work.
