Ellen Philpotts-Page (born February 21, 1987) is a Canadian actress, best known for her starring role in Hard Candy and as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand. She had previously received attention, particularly in her native Canada, for award-winning roles in Pit Pony and Marion Bridge and TV shows Trailer Park Boys and Regenesis.

Biography

Page was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She attended three different high schools before graduating from the Shambhala School in 2005 in Halifax.

Page started her drama training at the Neptune Theatre School. She began her acting career at the age of 11 in a made-for-TV film (which would later be made into a series) called Pit Pony. This led to roles in a number of small Canadian films and television series. At age 16 she was cast in an independent film shot in Europe, Mouth to Mouth, which solidified her place among the most talented young actors in Canada.

Page has roles in three as-yet unreleased films The Basement (also noted as An American Crime), based on the true story of Sylvia Likens, opposite Catherine Keener, as well as The Tracey Fragments and Stone Angel.

Ellen played Kitty Pryde in the film X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and had to wear hair extensions because she had shaved her head bald in her previous role in Mouth to Mouth (2004).

She will next work on Jack and Diane and Smart People, before beginning work on the film Juno in 2007.

Trivia

  • She admires Patti Smith, Peaches, and Kate Winslet. She enjoys the music of Metric, and Broken Social Scene.
  • In X-Men: The Last Stand, the original version of the ice skating scene called for Page to kiss Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), but according to the Director's commentary, it was left out of the film to keep it a PG-13, and because people who saw the scene in production were uncomfortable as Page looked "around 12 years old". The scene was filmed, and can be found amoung the DVD's deleted scenes.
