Joshua Ryan Hutcherson (born October 12, 1992) is an American film and television actor. He began acting in the early 2000s, appearing in several minor film and television roles, before gaining wider exposure with major roles in the 2005 films Little Manhattan and Zathura, and the 2006 comedy RV.

Biography

Personal life

Hutcherson was born in Union, Kentucky to Michelle and Chris Hutcherson; he has a younger brother, Connor, as well as several pets, including one dog, Diesel, two cats, Jell-O and Paws, and a turtle. Hutcherson has wanted to be an actor since he was four years old, but had only began auditioning for roles in 2002, after a successful screen test. He had previously attended New Haven Elementary School. He now has a girlfriend named Shannon who is 14 and homeschooled, she's from Kentucky also and they are not doing a movie together.

Career

Hutcherson's first role was in the 2002 made-for-television film, House Blend; in the same year, he appeared in an episode of ER. In 2003, he played the lead role in the comedy Miracle Dogs, which was released directly-to-video, starred opposite Peter Falk and Timothy Daly in the made-for-television film, Wilder Days, and had a minor role in the well-reviewed independent film, American Splendor.

In 2005, Hutcherson appeared in several major Hollywood films. He had a minor role in the Will Ferrell vehicle Kicking & Screaming (which was released in May), voiced Markl in the animated film Howl's Moving Castle (June), and played the lead roles in Little Manhattan (September) and Zathura, which was released in November to positive reviews. Hutcherson's recent role is in the comedy RV, playing the son of Robin Williams's character; the film was released on April 28, 2006. Hutcherson next plays the main character in Firehouse Dog, which will be released later in 2006, and has recently completed filming on Bridge to Terabithia, a fantasy film based on the novel of the same name, currently scheduled for release on February 16, 2007; he plays the lead role of Jesse Aaron in the film.

Hutcherson has recently signed on to star in Journey 3-D, a new film version of Journey to the Center of the Earth, opposite Brendan Fraser. Filming began in Montreal on June 10th, 2006 for a 2008 release.
