Robert Schenkkan (born March 19, 1953, is an American playwright who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his work The Kentucky Cycle.

Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he is well known as an actor for his role in the 1990 hit drama film Pump Up the Volume as the high school guidance counselor David Deaver, and his role as Lt. Commander Remmick in the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1 episodes "Coming of Age (TNG episode)" and "Conspiracy (TNG episode)".

He most recently wrote By the Waters of Babylon, which premiered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2005. His play, titled The Marriage of King Neptune and Miss Hollywood, had its world premiere this November at the University of Texas at Austin. He also wrote the play The Handler, about a man whose wife gets him involved in a snake handling church and is bitten on his first attempt, but awakes in his casket after his wife refuses to have his body embalmed.

Schenkkan is currently married to Maria Dahvana Headley, who recently wrote a book, The Year of Yes, about her experience for one year dating nearly anyone who asked her. It was during this period that she first met Schenkkan.

He is the uncle of The O.C. actor Benjamin McKenzie.
