William Russ (born October 20, 1950 in Portsmouth, Virginia) is an American actor. He has appeared in many made-for-TV movies.
'Rusty' Russ attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the Michigan Cheer team (which was all male at the time).
Russ' best known role is probably that as Alan Matthews, Ben Savage's father on the sitcom Boy Meets World. He also played the part of US Air Force test pilot Chalmers Goodlin in the 1983 film "The Right Stuff". He played the role of Nick Bartkowski in Jim Kouf's comedy Disorganized Crime; Danny and Derek Vineyard's father in American History X. He also appeared in two popular Michael Mann projects: Miami Vice and Crime Story (TV Series).
He is also well-known to fans of the TV series Wiseguy as arms dealer Roger Lococco: "15 years later, people still say to me, 'How's it going, buckwheat?'"
He is married to actress Clare Wren and has a daughter and son. He enjoys downhill skiing and windsurfing.
Mr. Russ also has an uncredited cameo in the seaQuest DSV episode "Give Me Liberte" where his character's name is Rusty Thomas. "Rusty" is his real-life nickname.
