The Best Reviewed Comedy of 2004

Mean Girls

While some are more successful than others, there's no denying that these types of movies just want to make you laugh. Like jokes, if one doesn't work, just move on to the next one. Studios take this to heart, as comedies are one of the staples of the film industry. The best reviewed, if not the funniest, in this category for 2004 is the Lindsay Lohan vehicle, Mean Girls. A movie about a teenager who goes to high school for the first time after spending much of her life abroad, Mean Girls tickled critics' funny bones with clever and insightful commentary about high school ecology. Elvis Mitchell, formerly of the New York Times, calls the movie "a version of the heart-of-darkness teenage social comedy Heathers for the tweener audience," with Sacramento Bee's Joe Baltake adding that "This is the best film of its kind since Amy Heckerling's Clueless." It shouldn't be surprising to learn that Saturday Night Live's alum Tina Fey wrote the screenplay. Let us know what your pick for this category is here.
