For those of you who are technologically inclined and aware, you probably already know that the big news this week is E3, the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (hence, the E3 moniker). To coincide with this glorious feast of e-Paraphernalia, our resident video game guru and RT Editor, Alex Vo, has put together a lovely list of director-video game adaptation pairings for the ages. Ever imagined what The Oregon Trail (the 80s kids will remember that one) would look like if Terrence Malick were to direct it? What about Earthworm Jim, helmed by Tim Burton? Or Larry Clark's Paperboy? Oh yeah, we went there. In any case, it's bit of fun we thought we'd have with the concept, so to read the full list, click HERE.

Next, we've also got the Five Favorite Films of Sid and Marty Krofft, the brains behind such TV classics as HR Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos, and yes, Land of the Lost. You might be surprised by the kinds of movies that inspired these two fathers of Saturday morning joy; check out the full interview HERE.

The other big news of the day is that our anticipated Community update is being pushed back a little bit to allow for some additional testing. The more we test, the fewer problems we'll encounter when we do push it live, so thanks for bearing with us in the meantime. You all are wonderful people. We'll see you tomorrow.

New Community Changes to Come Soon!

Hey everyone! There are some exciting changes coming your way on RT, and before confusion has the chance to sneak in, we thought we'd make you aware of what's going on.

First of all, when we are prepared to begin the data migration, user journals will be disabled, and all commenting capabilities will be turned off. Then, starting the next day, you may notice that there is a nifty new COMMUNITY (BETA) link in the top navigation bar. This effectively replaces the links for both THE VINE and FORUMS that sat up there before, but not to worry! User journals and the forums still exist, but we thought it would be more intuitive to place them both under a larger COMMUNITY umbrella because, well, they're both integral parts of the RT community. Simply navigate to your Community hub, and you'll see links for your blog and the forums.

The Forums will be just as you remember them, but better. You'll still be able to navigate to all your favorite threads and subforums, and avatars, signatures, and the like are still there. We've just gone ahead and upgraded our ancient version of the software to be current with the latest updates, so that posting and moderating is easier and more intuitive.

The user journals, however, will be a bit different (and, we think, improved); we've overhauled the system, which was outdated and clunky to navigate and edit, to make it easier for you connect with your friends and see what they've been up to on RT. Reviews and ratings are better organized, and we've implemented a system that will allow you to see how often your opinions match up with Critics, Top Critics, User Ratings, and Friends. Customization of page color schemes, however, will not be available, but you'll still be able to create lists, join groups, and exchange private messages with your contacts very easily.

We're very excited about these changes, but we do want to stress that this is the BETA stage for these features. This means that, while we think we've done a pretty thorough job testing it, we know we're not perfect, and as these things go, there are always a few things that manage to slip past even the keenest RT eyes. When the update goes live on RT, at the top of the Community page you'll see a banner asking for your feedback, so if you happen to spot anything you think might be incorrect, or if you suspect something in your profile is broken, be sure to click on the banner and let us know. Thanks for being loyal RTers, and we look forward to hearing what you think about the new Community features!

It's doing just alright on the Tomatometer so far (currently 60%), but star of The Office, John Krasinski, is set to appear in a film opening this week alongside the likes of Maya Rudolph, Catherine O'Hara, and Jeff Daniels, among others. The story revolves around a young couple (Krasinski and Rudloph), who are about to have their first child and decide to set out on a road trip to discover the perfect place to begin their family.

Inspired by the premise, we here at RT decided to put together a little list describing the most extreme Good and Bad Parents in film. We've got folks like Sarah Connor (The Terminator films) and Daniel Hillard (Mrs. Doubtfire) representing the Good side, while the likes of Darth Vader and Joan Crawford (Mommie Dearest) rounding out the Bad. It's a rather enlightening list, so if you're looking for some tips on how (and how not) to raise a child, this might be a decent place to start. Maybe. You can read the full guide HERE.

Other than that, we've also got photos from yesterday's MTV Movie Awards, during which a jock strap and angel wing-clad Bruno put a disgusted Eminem in a compromising position. We don't have any photos of the now infamous incident, unfortunately, but you can see all the stars on the red carpet of the event HERE. Of course, if you're actually interested in the results of the show, you can also view the full winners list HERE.

Lastly for today, I know a good number of you have been chomping at the bit for this one: we've got the brand new trailer for the next installment in the Twilight series, New Moon. Oh yes, we do. And by all accounts, it certainly looks like it will be more impressive than the first installment. Check out the trailer HERE and see if your opinion on the franchise doesn't change.

That's about it for today. Remember, we've got some realy exciting changes due out this week, so keep your eyes peeled, and continue to read the updates here so you won't be caught fully off guard when it happens!

Drat. Fiddlesticks. Dagnabbit.

Well, it was wonderful while it lasted, and let's remember the extra day off wasn't only about having barbecues and watching sports on cable TV. In any case, we begin a new week with a few items you may have missed over the extended weekend.

First of all, who would have thought that the super-hyped Terminator: Salvation would be trumped by Ben Stiller and a zany cast of re-animated historical figures? That's right, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian took top honors at the box office this weekend, earning roughly $18 million more than the fourth installment of the sci-fi/action blockbuster starring Christian Bale. For the full box office report, you can click HERE.

Next up, our devoted (and lucky) Joe Utichi wrapped up Cannes coverage this weekend with a look at 10 Must-See movies that emerged from the prestigious French film festival. You probably already know of some of them, but you may not have even heard of the others; it's quite an interesting list. Check it out in its entirety HERE.

And speaking of strong openings at Cannes, you Sam Raimi fans out there are probably positively giddy over his latest effort's current 100% Tomatometer (and that's with 18 reviews in!). I speak, of course, of the director's anticipated return to horror with Drag Me to Hell, which has, by most accounts, turned out to be a fun little thrill ride. Not only do we have the photos from its red carpet premiere, which you can view HERE, but we've also set up a Tomatometer-watch article to track how it performs as more reviews trickle in. It does, of course, have to share the honor with Pixar's latest effort, Up, which is also currently tracking at an impressive 100%. But let's be honest here: it's Pixar. Who among us didn't see that one doing well? In any case, you can read the Tomatometer-watch article in full HERE.

And lastly, a little gem that Mr. Tim Ryan himself sent my way today. Upon hearing that Nigeria was the third largest movie market, behind only the US and India (that's right - even higher than China, Japan, or France), he decided to see what the African powerhouse had to offer. What he found was THIS.

And on that note, I bid you a good evening.

So who's seen the new trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes? Did I just say that? "Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes?" I did, and if you haven't seen the aforementioned trailer, then prepare yourselves for it... or not. It pretty much looks like what you might imagine a Guy Ritchie treatment of the iconic sleuth might look like. Take a look HERE and see for yourself.

Of course, if seeing Robert Downey Jr. adopt a British accent, fistfight baddies in slow-mo, and chirp not-so-subtle sexual inneundo in the ears of housemaids isn't your cup of tea, then you might be more interested in our preview clip of the upcoming comedy, The Hangover. Well, that is, if you're into Mike Tyson as a lounge singer. Confused? Watch the clip HERE and see what I mean.

Still not your thing, you say? Looking for something more family-friendly, you say? A-ha! We've got yet another preview clip to share with you, straight from the reels of Ben Stiller's latest yukfest, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, which actually opens this weekend. The first installment did pretty well, and though this sequel is only marginally Fresh at the moment, you might be better able to decide whether or not it's for you by checking out the clip, which you can see HERE.

And lastly, to complement the release of Terminator: Salvation this weekend, remember to check in with our Jen Gets Terminated series, in which Senior RT Editor Jen Yamato watches each of the Terminator installments leading up to the Christian Bale sequel. Today marks Day 2, and you can read her thoughts on Terminator 2: Judgment Day HERE.

That's it for tonight. Take care of yourselves, and we'll see you tomorrow!

You heard it here first. Our faithful expert on DVD releases and Twilight expert, Jen Yamato, will not longer be working for Rotten Toma... Wait, hold on. I'm being told that I've completely misunderstood the headline here. No, Jen is not, in fact, being fired from RT, but she is going to be watching every installment of the Terminator franchise this week leading up to the release of the much anticipated Terminator Salvation. She's actually already begun her journey, and you can read her take on the iconic The Terminator HERE.

On top of that, the Cannes Film Festival is still currently underway, so if you're into cutting edge cinema, you can read all the on-the-scene updates from our UK editor, Joe Utichi, HERE. As if living in Europe weren't cool enough, he gets to fly to Cannes while we're stuck in an over-air-conditioned office with elevators that sounds like tie fighters rumbling behind us constantly. That's alright, though; I didn't want to go anyway. (Was that believable?)

In any case, we'll have more updates for you later, so stay tuned. There are some site changes that will be coming up in the next couple of weeks, and I think you'll most definitely want to hear all about them. I'll have more details for you very, very, very, very soon (that was my Commandant Lassard impression).

It's been a long week, and I'm looking forward to a couple of days shriveling up in the sun (get it? You know, because we're all tomatoes here? Yeah, nevermind...). In any case, the biggest thing going on right now is Cannes. We're smack dab in the middle of the Cannes Film Festival, and our faithful UK Editor Joe Utichi is hard at work (and play), hobnobbing with famous people and having discussions about film piracy with public figures. That jerk.

Having said that, you can check out our complete Cannes coverage HERE. The most recent news includes Terry Gilliam and Don Quixote, various news on Jekyll and Hyde adaptations, and the announcement of a live-action version of popular Japanese anime series Bubblegum Crisis. I know, it's mindblowing.

Other than that, we're still lokoing for contributions to our Rotten Tomatoes Show. And in case you haven't checked the updates in the past few weeks, you can actually earn $100 if they end up using your review on the show! For all the spicy details, check HERE.

Alright folks. Have a great weekend, and I'll see you on Monday.

P.S.
Stay tuned, for we've got some exciting stuff coming up, and I'll be keeping you updated on it!

Alright, alright. I know the title above makes no sense whatsoever, but it's late in the day, and I'm a little high on caffeine, which tends to do little besides give me the jitters and scramble my brain. Having said that, let me sort through my thoughts here and try to spotlight some content for you.

First up, we've got new photos up from the world premiere of Angels & Demons. You can see Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, and the rest of the cast decked out in their tuxes and evening gowns (Ewan looks awful in cocktail dresses) on the red carpet, strategically evading reporters and striking poses for the paparazzi. To see them in all their glory, click HERE.

In addition to that, we thought it would appropriate to have a look at the best-reviewed films of Tom Hanks, since he's, you know, starring in the only wide release this weekend. Hop on over to this week's Total Recall and take a loving look back at Mr. Hanks, back when he was coaching women's baseball teams and dancing on oversized keyboards. You can read the full article HERE.

Lastly, you might recall that we held a photo contest for Little Ashes where we asked all of you to submit images of yourselves in the best moustache you could grow or fabricate. We've selected the winners for the contest and posted the entries of all the finalists HERE. Some of you really went out of your way for this, and some of you have some downright righteous 'staches!

Alright folks. I'm gonna go home and catch the season finale of LOST, which I didn't get to see last night. Have a great night, and we'll see you here tomorrow!

Rian Johnson is a pretty cool guy...

RT-Ryan on 5/13/09 at 6:10 PM

I didn't get to meet him. I didn't even get to speak to him. I probably haven't been any closer to him than 10 miles. But our faithful Tim Ryan was granted the opportunity to speak with Rian Johnson, director of the upcoming The Brothers Bloom, over the phone for a Five Favorite Films interview, and I got to listen in on the entire conversation. It's confirmed: Rian Johnson is just a really cool guy. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and articulate, with a sense of humor to boot. Tim seemed to be having a grand ol' time as they shared some yuks over a few of Rian's choices, and I was pleasantly surprised. To find out Rian's five top con man movies (in honor of Bloom), as well as learn a tiny bit about his upcoming project, Looper, and hear how he thinks filmmakers are, in a way, con men, you can check out the full interview HERE.

In addition, we've got some nice photos for you all to see from the premiere of Angels & Demons, starring Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, and Stellan Skarsgaard. The movie, based on The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown's earlier novel, returns Hanks to the role of Robert Langdon, Harvard symbologist who... Oh, forget it. You all already know what it's about. There's an Illuminati conspiracy plot, catholic priests, dark puzzles to solve, and an appropriately foreign female co-star. Its Tomatometer is a bit below Fresh at the moment, but so was the Tomatometer for TDVC, and by most accounts, A&D is much better. To see the actors in their "normal" clothes (you know, tuxes, evening gowns, that sort of thing), click HERE.

Those are the two biggies we've got goin on today. Check back tomorrow for more tomato-ey goodness.
