Disturbing news from the realm of Will Smith’s superhero movie Hancock. The movie’s world premiere had been scheduled to happen next month in Australia. Everyone from Will Smith to Peter Berg was scheduled to attend, but now not so much. The film’s premiere has been unceremoniously cancelled.
What’s really worrisome here is the reason it may have been cancelled. Our sources tell us they aren’t having the premiere, because the movie won’t be ready. It won’t be ready because they won’t have a print, and they won’t have a print, because rumor is that the movie is headed for re-shoots. There may be problems with Hancock.
The film is set to open worldwide on July 2nd, which makes this a bit late to be pulling the thing out of the can and re-shooting it. On the other hand, there were rumors that Will Smith’s last film I Am Legend went through similar troubles, and that ultimately turned out pretty good. If this is true, maybe it’ll be for the best.

Obviously, if I could have revealed my source I would have. In this instance however, my source has asked to remain anonymous.
However please be aware that "premiere" does not mean just the opening day showings which they are advertising on television. That is not the movie's premiere.
It's hilarious that they are trying to sound like they understand movies, and then say "I am Legend" was "pretty good". That movie was the epitome of stupid. It's a buttafly, dad! Durrrrr!
I saw a screening for Hancock, and while the first three quarters of the movie were entertaining, the ending was exceptionally awful. The other people that I saw the movie with agree with me. They may have decided, unlike some piece of junk like Fantastic 4, that they could salvage a good movie out of this.
What the f are you talking about? You think "I Am Legend" turned out pretty good (first of all it's "well", not good). That movie sucked, it was terrible. Will Smith is awful, he overacts and tries way too hard. Everytime he is onscreen he seems to just be trying to show off, there is nothing natural about any of his performances. I am not surprised at all that his latest movie has to go in for reshoots, because I expect this movie to suck as well. Will Smith has not been in a decent film since the first Men In Black. Even if all of his movies make a but-load of money, it does not mean that they are any good. It means that he caters to the idiot masses. These are the same masses that make sure that every turd Adam Sandler squeezes out will make over 100 mil. I hope that you mean "I Am Legend" turned out well only because it made so much money. Even though that may have turned out well for Will Smith, it has not turned out well for society. With every Will Smith and Adam Sandler movie that becomes a hit, people are only encouragin them to make dumber movies. Do yourselves a favor and go see a good movie like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".
This is not at all surprising. "I Am Legend" was actually terrible (some of the worst CGI ever) and "Hancock"'s premise is hardly exciting. I like Will Smith and usually like his movies, as well (with a few exceptions). I hope the movie is actually better than it looks.
This has been known in the industry for some time, the reshoots went down earlier this month in the NY area. You really didn't need to speculate so much when fact is staring you straight in the eye.
i am legend wasnt that bad folks! the cgi sucked, but besides that it was pretty decent (except for a few flaws...). as for Hancock, i think it looks much better than i initially anticipated from the first preview. i dont understand all the hate. finally, an original superhero without comic book origins. could be good...
Will smith's cockiness in Movies like Independence Day, for instance, make the movie fun and different. All movies don't have to be a social commentary or "elite buff" status to be pertinent.
Poor critic “wannabees” who slam movies people like and then call people "idiot masses" are idiots themselves. ;)
I Am Legend was an awesome demonstration of one man being able to act without the interaction of other actors through much o the movie is a wonderful testament to Will Smiths acting ability.
I, too, would rather they take the time to rewrite a movie to good, rather than settle for a disappointing outcome. Even if the initial cost is higher, the long-term outcome is much better for extended profits and Will Smith's reputation. (Not that some cynics credit him with one). I think Will Smith is a GREAT actor!
Will Smith is the most overrated actor in Hollywood. All he seems to do is play himself. I cannot stand either him or his wife. They certainly are rich though.
Ban Scientology. Ban Will Smith. No one is interested in being brainwashed by this dumb shit. Will needs to get some serious wake-up calls.......BOYCOTT SCIENTOLOGY & THOSE WHO SUPPORT THIS DEATH CULT.

I’m really looking forward for the movie HANCOCK, looks cool, funny and really entertaining. Why all the hate towards Will Smith…This guy makes a lot of money for his movies why…. because he is……ENTERTAINING. You guys are all bashing “I am legend” which was good not great… but you guys forget some of his other great movie….
The Pursuit of Happiness……awesome
Hitch…..very funny
I Robot……kick ass movie
Bad Boy 1 and 2….. just really fun action
Enemy of the State…..great movie.
Ali…..which he was f’en great in
I bet every of you will laugh at least once in the Movie HANCOCK…
I don't like any of Mr. Smith's movies. I don't expect every movie to be social commentary, but I do like movies, be they comedies, dramas or action, that look like someone actually put some thought into the script. I resigned to the fact long ago, that Will Smith is content to make movies that mostly appeal to children and tweens. And there's nothing wrong with that, I'm just no longer in his target demographic.
If someone thinks that those who do not share their subjective opinion of a movie are idiots, then why post an opinion? Since people who don't agree are idiots, they have no chance of seeing that amazing wisdom and changing their mind. And anyone who already agrees does not need to read another opinion, they are obviously already brilliant and don't need any help.
I think Will Smith is a fun actor, but I can see how some people get tired of him playing a similar character most of the time. But he's no Adam Sandler, and comparing him to Sandler seems ill advised. All you have to do is compare the relative star power of their supporting casts to see the vast difference between them. Adam Sandler would disappear amidst the likes of Tommy Lee Jones, Gene Hackman, etc. And anyone who steals the show from Bill Pullman and Randy Quaid has to be good (:
Comparing rotten tomatoes rating of the two actors:
Will Smith: 53% 5.5/10
Adam Sandler: 10% 3/10
They each have about the same box office draws since 2001, totaling 2.5 billion for movies they have been in.
I have always wanted to see a movie about a superhero that really acts like someone would with all that power. In most stories, the person(s) with super powers is either super-evil, or super do-gooders. Even when there is supposed to be conflict between the two, it's not convincing.
BTW, I am legend rated 7.2 on IMDB and 68% on RT, so I think that would be considered doing well. Not great, but well.
I'll be boycotting this as will many of my friends and family. The fact that he associates and donates money to such a corrupt and disgusting organisation (cult of scientology) has left a bad taste in our mouths. Here's hoping it remains cancelled.
I find it hilarious that people are attempting to boycott a movie due to religious corruption. Scientology is far-fetched, and i certainly do not endorse anything it teaches, but to accuse a religion of being corrupt while being part of the majority religion is a prime example of those living in glass houses casting stones. If you don't like his movies, then thats a fine reason to avoid seeing it, but to discriminate on a religious level by avoiding something so superficial as a movie is simply stupid.
I hope you learn to keep business, religious, personal and entertainment values seperate sometime in the near future, or else you will end up missing out on a lot of life.
I Am Legend was awful as was I Robot.
I like how they have down played the mixed race romance abrewing in the ads. Nothing ever changes when you are trying to sell tickets.
I can't believe I read some of those comments, I want that time back. Clearly a lot of you should NEVER be movie critics ever. The word "suck" means an overall terrible movie where everything went wrong. If you consider I am Legend one of those movies, I suggest not going to the movies ever again; you clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Was the ending a bit weaker? Sure. Could the CGI have been better? Of course. But most critics and fans agree the first 2/3 was very good and quite a few people like me thought the ending was fine (DVD version was better). Add that up, you have a decent to good movie, FAR FROM SUCKING. Learn how to review and stop wasting our time.
HANCOCK looks FUNNY, can't wait, talk about a cool twist on the super hero genre. Can't wait!
Let's be realistic people - Will Smith is a certain type of actor and he gets offered certain roles that he would fit and I think he does the best with what he gets. He has made honest attempts to diversify and has done reasonably well. Anyone here want to say that Will Smith in Pursuit of Happyness sucked? It takes time to learn new styles. There isn't a storage bank of any type of role possible and any actor can choose any role they want, that's not how Hollywood works.
You people expect actors to play roles that are a 100miles apart from each other from one day to the next but I don't many actors today or ever that go from playing an action hero one minute to comedy the next to portrayal of a misfit in an indy movie. The only actors who can come close to this are those that are not well known as they have little risk but a well known actor is pressured to take roles that they have proven themselves in.
Adam Sandler plays the goofball because that's what he's proven himself in and those are the roles the studios offer him. He tried something different in 'punch, drunk, love' and did he do as well? No. Did he get offers to be in Lord of the Rings? No. So why try when he has a formula that works, albeit not pleasing to the segment of the population that posts here.
Tom Hanks in his good days was always clearly Tom Hanks and pretty much was either in the same dramatic acting roles or occasionally in a light comedy. His only different role was Forrest Gump and that's cause he was playing a retarded person.
So people, stop dumping on Will Smith. He does well with the roles he gets offered, he occasionally has tried some different stuff and a large segment of the population enjoys his work. Does a large segment of the population enjoy your critical appraisals? Entertainment isn't really about pleasing the 5% of the population represented on this board. And FYI Will isn't a scientologist, he's a Christian and was just sticking up for a friend.
Before anyone says 'Ban Will Smith', watch 'Ali'. It was a tour de force and shows that lots of people who opt for blockbuster pay can do really fine, worth-while movies, if they put their mind to it.
He was also good in 'Hitch' - it wasn't sophisticated but it was the best rom-com in a while. In that genre, arguably, there's been nothing worth mentioning since 'When Harry met Sally'. It actually had developed male characters. Plus, it was collaborative - despite him getting top billing and they even made a supermodel look like a credible actress.
Then, for a blockbuster, you can always watch 'Independence Day'. I'm not even American and I think it's hilarious and moving (in parts). Again, it's more than the sum of one big name and he doesn't appear to have tried to cut anyone's lines or go diva on set.
I agree with banning Scientology, by the way. In my country, it's classed as a cult and the government actually came out and said it was 'harmful'. On the other hand, our Secretary of State for Education was a member of Opus Dei.
I am Legend was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I actually fell asleep during the movie in the theatre and eventually walked out. I Robot was another terrible effort from Smith. The Pursuit of Happiness was mediocre, due to the pandering of the film throughout. Bad Boys II was crap. Wild Wild West was crap. Independence Day was saved by its great special effects. In my opinion Will Smith is making a worthwile movie about 1 out of 5 movies he's in. He needs to give up the blockbusters and try to go more the route of Denzel Washington and do some serious roles. You can't play the same super action hero in almost all of your movies. The guy has talent but is totally wasting it. I just wish his horrible films wouldn't gross huge box office numbers everytime because then maybe he would have a reason to take some more worthwile roles in films. Until Smith takes some better roles I will not watch any of his movies again.
i robot was awful...right from the first scene with tennis shoes product placement
i am legend was an abortion...and independence day does not stand the test of time
reading these comments, and watching the movie grosses, it appears to me that most of the movie going public is purposefully retarded.
btw, scientology is not a religion...not sure how they got tax free status in the states, but places like germany do not accpet them as a religion...they are a straght out cult of money...but smith insists that he isnt a scientologist...he swears on xemu that this is true
