on May 16 2008 06:29 AM Could Will Smith's summer blockbuster run finally be coming to an end...or will it make money anyway??? (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 07:26 AM The reporter writes that "I Am Legend" went through similar problems and still turned out pretty good.... I wonder if he actually meant "pretty profitable." (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 07:53 AM In reply to this comment (#1737032) He couldn't have meant that the movie was good - "I Am Legend" was terrible. And the premise of "Hancock" is none-too-thrilling. Anyone remember "My Super Ex-girlfriend?" The 'superhero-as-jerk' theme is simply not appealing. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 08:16 AM Hancock does look like a movie developed around a gimmick -- which is generally not a good sign. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 08:36 AM there's a great article about "hancock" on 'worst previews', about how the script was developed and how it changed from the actual idea to what it is now. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 08:45 AM the guy is like will...ferrell, no matter what he puts out, its gold. I am Legend was way overhyped and was borderline garbage. it was the first movie i've seen him in where he actually looked like a bad actor. usually he makes the roles his own but, that movie was below average. if he's going to have a tanked summer blockbuster, i'd bet this is it. he's being very cocky about it and reshoots are rarely because the movie was JUST so frikkin good...they had to add more. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 08:46 AM Hancock in the latest trailers look like it was taking itself to seriously. Oh and the reshoots for I Am Legend sucked! that new ending they made for theatures was so bad, the original ending released on dvd was way better. This might just be a rental for me. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 08:49 AM In reply to this comment (#1737054) If you didn't notice Iron mans Tony syark is the "Superhero-as-jerk" and it turned out great. Tony stark is a lovable as**ole but poeple like that about him. My super ex was terrible for other reasons but not for the premise. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 08:55 AM In reply to this comment (#1737151) How is "he" being cocky. "He" just did the film. Other people are hyping it based on the fact that everything he touches becomes gold. He has hardly done any press on it and is always humble about what he does. By the way, they are rumored to be doing reshoots because in this current cut he is drinking alcohol with a 12 year old and the ratings board wants to give it a "R" rating because of it and they want to get a "PG-13". (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 09:52 AM Yeah, I'll bet the re-shoot is to replace problematic content that might stir controversy, not because the movie sucks and they're doing it over. It might suck, but if Hollywood made a practice of re-shooting every sucky movie out there, they might release about 2 movies a year on time. :p (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 12:22 PM I've got high hopes for Hancock. I'm sure we can all wait till they get it right. If they have to tone it down to get the pg-13, so be it - who wants to take their kid to an r-movie? And I still shake my head over criticism for I Am Legend, which was the best time my son and I ever had at a movie. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 01:28 PM Hancock is being re shoot for one reason only. The MPAA has gaveing the movie an R rating twice. Berg is teying to get the movie down to a PG-13 rating. Based on early reviews, the movie is very good but also very dark and not for kids at all. Keep in mind that IAm Legend was rated R befour they did Re shoots of the movie. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 01:46 PM I don't understand what everyone has against "I am legend." Oh well, that's a separate topic. I don't see what the big deal is with this. Re-shooting scenes from movies that are close to release is not a crazy thing. Honestly, if the ending was pretty bad, I would appreciate them taking time to hopefully fix it. I thought this movie looked entertaining. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 02:34 PM This is getting off-topic, but Legend's primary offense for me was the creatures. There are many things about them I could go on and on about, but simply put, when Smith's character is facing off against things that look like cartoon caracatures of something from "The Mummy" films, that completely took me out of the movie. With the ridiculous special effects, there would've been no saving grace for me regardless of an improved ending. (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 03:46 PM Personally, I can't wait for this movie. The premise sounds great, at a time when superhero movies are popular, but having a "hero" that doesn't give a crap. Plus you have the comedic genius that is Jason Bateman and eye candy in Charlize Theron. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 16 2008 04:36 PM In reply to this comment (#1737442) Wait was I Am Legend orinally R, what did they take out to tone it down? Do you have a link to this info? (Reply to this) |

on May 16 2008 07:52 PM hes not called mr 4th of july for nothing fokes (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 17 2008 04:31 PM Well, i hope for Big Willy's bank account and improving critical praise resume that this movie turns out good. Still,if i would see speed racer afer the reviews it got, then its a pretty good bet that i will still see this film. I'm bettin this film will be great and will be a nice appetizer to the main course in the month.... Ju-Dark Knight-ly ;) (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 18 2008 04:35 PM I just saw a new teaser for Hancock during the NBA playoffs that was giving the movie a very different tone than what we've seen so far. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next month or so. (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2008 06:50 PM i wouldn't say that the whole "superhero as a jerk" idea is entirely bad, the best angle and only real redeeming part of Superman III is when Superman turns bad and ends up fighting himself in the garbage dump. it just has to be a superhero we actually care about so that when he goes bad, it resonates in us on an emotional level.
