Kevin Smith's Porno Adds Five
Jay, Randal, three others join Rogen and Banks in Dimension comedy.

Just in time for filming to begin, Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno has added five new faces to its cast.

Joining the already-announced starring duo of Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are Craig Robinson (NBC's The Office), Traci Lords (Cry-Baby), Ricky Mabe (Frankenstein and Me), and Katie Morgan, as well as Jeff Anderson and Jason Mewes, both veterans of previous Smith productions.

In the film -- which started shooting in Pittsburgh yesterday -- Rogen and Banks play friends who decide to film a porno in order to help pay off their debts, only to discover their feelings for each other might be more complicated than they thought.

The Dimension production, currently without a firm release date, will mark the latest chapter in a long partnership between Smith, producer Scott Mosier, and Dimension/The Weinstein Company co-chairs Bob and Harvey Weinstein; previous outings have included Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma.

Smith has been dead in the water lately. Well, I really just mean he's done nothing truly noteworthy since...the original Clerks [I'm not a Dogma fan and think the Clerks II is a big overrated].
But samples I've seen from this script looked hilarious, and I'm a fan of Seth Rogan, so hopefully he can put something enjoyable out there.

I am having trouble seeing beyond the concept of "porno" involved with Elizabeth Banks...Naturally, I can't imagine we're gonna see any real "action" but the tittilation is thrilling.

Chasing Amy was good. But, yeah, you're right.

Chasing Amy was very good but Kevin Smith has been living off his rep for awhile now. He's definitely got something to prove.

Dogma is underappreciated, but I'd say since that film he hasn't put out anything above average. Here's hoping he gets his flow back.

I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, I love all his movies, he definitely has a niche audience, you either you him or hate him, Chasin Amy is his best movie, but I love the others as weel, not to mention his Evening With...movies. I'm really looking forward to this one...

Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma are all 90's classics (god I start to feel old typing that). Clerks II, while not quite as good, still had more laughs for me than most other films of '06. J&SBSB was one giant in-joke that was usually funny. Heck, even Mallrats had it's moments of brillance. Jersey Girl, tried it, didn't care for it myself, but I know many who did like it. Considering I just listed EVERY movie that he's directed, I'll trust his movies in advance a heck of a lot more than most directors working today.

I watched Clerks II not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The movie had some big laughs and really pushed the envelope in terms of the raunch factor. I felt like Smith had a lot more to prove going into that film after having done Jersey Girl, and he really reclaimed his balls with Clerks II. Plus, he was great in Die Hard 4.

The concept of the Troll in Clerks 2 should make a comeback in this new PORNO movie! USE CGI with it! Steal my idea Kevin, I know you read everything, and go Troll Go!

I love Kevin Smith, Clerks II was the funniest film of the last few years. I am really looking forward to this, Banks is hot, and I'm really happy that Mewes and Anderson just got added on.

Looking forward to this one... Overall, Smith's output over the last few years has been slightly spotty; however, he was such an indie darling that no matter what he does now with a budget over $1 million is going to get unfair scrutiny and bull-**** tossed his way. Clerks II was surprisingly hysterical and even had more heart than most comedies on the last few years. Jersey Girl is a film that gets unfairly bashed in my estimation. It was such a departure for him, as it was a deeply personal film that I felt was largely misunderstood. It wasn't a romantic film at all, but rather a film that emphasizes a man's relationship with his daughter, and his inability to not only take responsibility for his actions, but also appreciate what he has. I thought Jersey Girl was a far superior film than some of his other output (looking at you, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). J&SBSB is his worst flick, in my estimation, unless, of course, you are a 14 year old guy whose only goal is to cop a handjob from a female classmate. Dogma was okay, butSmith kind of leaned on stupid humor a bit much on that one. Chasing Amy was good, but hasn't aged all that well... MallRats is also a film for 14 year old boy, however, when I first saw it, I was quite impressed. Clerks remains great to this day, even if the acting is sub-par. As it stands, I do largely enjoy Smith's output, and if Clerks II is a sign of his resurgence as a great comedy writer who can instill heart into the raunchiest of situations, Porno will be a huge success. Not to mention the cast is great.

Although I did really like Clerks II (not nearly as much as the original) and that first episode of Reaper I do understand that Kevin Smith has a lot to proof. His movies just aren't as well written as they used to be and what the f*** was Jersey Girl. But I have faith; this sounds like a weird twist on a love movie and if Chasing Amy is any indication that's one thing he's really good at. We can only hope

I like the "old" Kevin Smith. I'd rather watch Mallrats than Clerks II, which was basically Smith doing a piss-poor impression of himself.

This movie does sound interesting, however. And anything with the words "Elizabeth Banks" and "Porno" is probably going to be worth watching.
