Bob Clark Gets "Spring Broke" while Stern Readies "Porky's" Redo
by RT Staff | February 21, 2006
Discuss Article
Director Bob Clark ("Porky's," "A Christmas Story") has announced that he will go back to his teen-sex-comedy roots to direct "Spring Broke," which is about three college students who travel to Cancun to get some action.

Some preliminary trailer shooting took place over the weekend in Atlanta, GA (at "The Atrium"). Some celebrities signed onto the project who were reported on set include Gbenga Akinnagbe, star of the upcoming season of HBO's "The Wire," and Tom Pelphrey, star of CBS's "Guiding Light."

"Porky's," which was originally released in 1982, is now being remade by Howard Stern and directed by old-time 80's director Savage Steve Holland ("Better Off Dead," "One Crazy Summer").

Both films are currently in development and should be released around the same time.

Okay, Porky's is one film that shouldn't have been made in the first place, much less remade

I jokingly said a few months ago in a thread about remakes that it would only be a matter of time before someone remade Porky’s. I didn't actually think someone would do it. Hollywood has finally reached the bottom of the stink barrel.

The Kim Cattrall role
Any thoughts on who should play the Kim Cattrall role in the "Porky's" remake?

I'd wait until the movie comes out before saying shit like "Hollywood has finally reached the bottom of the stink barrel." I mean, that's all you guys say all the time.

I say it because the original sucked unless you were a pimple faced boy in grade six seeing boobs for your first time. A Porky's remake? God almighty, I'd be surprised if even Pauly Shore was desperate enough to sign on for this childish piece of gutter humour trash. But then again, what else would you expect from Howard 'The Duck' Stern?

The only saving grace would be if Steve Holland can make it better than the original. He has a fairly twisted sense of humor, as anyone who's seen Better Off Dead knows. If he can bring some of that strangeness to the party, it might stand a chance. Regardless, it will make buttloads of money from sixth grade boys looking to see boobs, which is after all why they're remaking it in the first place.

Just when you've thought Hollywood has reached the absolute bottom, they find a way to go even lower.

Well said. I was a lot MORE skeptical about this remake before hearing that Savage Steve was involved.

I don't know why all the 'Porky's' hate. I grew up in the 80s and it was a great movie with a typical want to get laid theme. 'Porky's' happened to be one of the better ones of that era. Of course the sequels sucked and this new project about teens going to Cancun has been done a zillion ages, but the original 'Porky's' is a great comedy for me and my friends.

QUOTE I say it because the original sucked unless you were a pimple faced boy in grade six seeing boobs for your first time. END QUOTE

I was 12 when Porky's came out and coudn't see it until I moved in with my father at age 14. Porky's was friggin hilarious back then. There were so many crappy films made in the 80s about the same subject and Porky's was one of the best. And don't come off with some crap like 'The Last American Virgin' was the best of the 80s horny kids genre. I abhor the idea of a remake only because I still love the original. I'm 35, most of my friends are around the same age and we all have a fondness for Porky's. It was the 'American Pie' of the 80's with a little less heart and a little more raunchy.

Interesting! I am interested to see what Clark's new movie will be like. Sounds like a good idea. The girlfriend and I went down to Cancun last year and I always wonder why there was never a movie about teens and Cancun (Not counting that cheesy Reality movie). I was 10 when Porky's came out. Naturally I wasn't able to see it then. Saw it years later and it was one of the funniest movies I've seen. Don't know how they could remake it though...it's one of those movies. very gritty and real. I guess you either get it or you don't. One can only hope if there's anyone that will save this genre, it would be him. He can make funny and real. Christmas story too.

Point taken. It was the American Pie of the 80's, but better. So for those who like that sort of humour, you should enjoy the orginal Porky's. This should also tell you what I thought of American Pie.

I don't care if Howard Stern is remaking Porky's or if the guy who made the first one is remaking it. They are going to mess it up. This was one of my mother's favorite movies, and she hates raunchy humor. She took my brother, who was twelve, to see it and loved it. I think that if they tried to remake the original frame by frame, they would get an NC-17 rating. So they'll tame it down, and make it stupid. I like this type of movie, and honestly, I wouldn't go see it.

Sixth Grade kids don't need anymore to go to see a movie with fake IDs in order to get a peek at boobs... Hello ?! It's 2006 ! They surf the net and download porn !! I'm amazed that Stern hasn't thought about that. He must have just loved the movie and dreamt of remaking it ever since. I hope the only audience that this crap is going to get are those nostalgics that saw the original when they were 12 and are curious about how a remake would be.

Damn, these are some fucking personal stories about growing up and seeing Porky's. Honestly, I think that Porky's is honestly a bad movie unless you were a 12-year-old boy back in the day. The movie these days is beyond dead. The best thing to come out of Porky's were a couple of great Family Guy jokes. But oh god, Howard Stern is writing Porky's. It'll probably be like swimming in raw sewage. This is gonna be terrible, and let's hope Fartman doesn't make an appearance. I know some of you just love Howard Stern, but I think he is the most overrated and unfunny entertainer out there. As for Bob Clark, well thanks for A Christmas Story, but come the fuck on.

I am so sick of remakes, but Clark directing a new sex comedy is good news.

Everyone is negative about the whole remake issue...well...can't blame you. Hollywood has manged to do some really sh*tty remakes recently, but this is far from the bottom of the barrel. I will list three good reasons as to how this could be worse...
Bloodsport remake starring jet li and jackie chan
Anything directed by Uwe Bowll (that should make everyone think twice :)
A remake of Star Wars...hey it is hollywood!

Is that true? No, no that CAN AND WILL NOT happen. "schindlers List" is fuckin' platinum. How could they get it any better?

Anyway, isnt an unspoken law that someone cant remake Oscar films?
