In this week's Ketchup, we have two tidbits of Marvel madness, major progress on the Dune adaptation, and the deaths of some of our most beloved on-screen troublemakers

This Week's Top News:

Stan Lee Promises Many, Many Marvel Movies
Get ready for a lot more movies based on Marvel characters -- according to Stan Lee, the company is leaving no major character unfilmed.

Peter Berg Confirmed to Direct New Dune Film
Score another one for the rumor mill: Peter Berg has been confirmed as the director of a new Dune.

Bruckheimer Promises Unique Prince of Persia
They said you couldn't turn a theme park ride into a good movie and Jerry Bruckheimer brought us Pirates of the Caribbean. Now he looks to set right the damage done by Hollywood to video games with his Prince of Persia.

Nicolas Cage Wants Ghost Rider Sequel
Nicolas Cage had never made a sequel until National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Now, that franchise seems to have whet his appetite to return to other characters too. The most likely candidate would be the comic book superhero Ghost Rider.

Sacha Baron Cohen Announces "Deaths" of Borat, Ali G
There will by no more sexytime for Sacha Baron Cohen.

Informal RT staff polling reveals Speedball, Cardiac, and Skull and Crossbones movies are most wanted. (Seriously.)

In Other News:
  • The Coens next film will be a Spaghetti Western. According to them: "We've written a western with a lot of violence in it. There's scalping and hanging ... it's good. Indians torturing people with ants, cutting their eyelids off... It's a proper western, a real western, set in the 1870s. It's got a scene that no one will ever forget because of one particular chicken."

  • 25 films have been added to The National Registry of Film: Back to the Future, Bullitt, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Dance, Girl, Dance, Dances With Wolves, Days of Heaven, Glimpse of the Garden, Grand Hotel, The House I Live In, In a Lonely Place, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Mighty Like a Moose, The Naked City, Now, Voyager, Oklahoma!, Our Day, Peege, The Sex Life of the Polyp, The Strong Man, Three Little Pigs, Tol'able David, Tom, Tom the Piper's Son, 12 Angry Men, The Women, Wuthering Heights.

  • A total of 48 people went to see Jessica Simpson's new movie, Blond Ambition, on its opening weekend. Call it Zzyzx Rd. Redux.

  • Guillermo del Toro is being considered to direct The Hobbit. Del Toro's response: "I've heard some rumblings, but nothing official. I don't want to think about it because it's such an eventuality."

  • An online Reuters poll reveals Angelina Jolie is the world's top celebrity humanitarian (that'll go nice with her Greatest Woman in the World award from Vanity Fair), while Madonna is the least-respected.

  • Out of patience with the WGA, the AAMTP will begin their negotiations with the DGA on January 7.

  • The AFI has released their list of most significant moments of 2007. Among them: the writer's strike, the iPhone, Hollywood's deluge of war-on-terror films, and the deaths of Michelangelo Antonioni and Ingmar Bergman.

Will he be rockin' the ring?

Checking Peter Berg's back catalog, I am not seeing a lot of promise for the new Dune. And it just makes it less likely that someone is gonna do this damn movie right.

Also, Nicolas Cage sucks and needs to be shot.

It will be a godsend if The Hobbit falls into the hands of a director as talented as Guillermo. It will be even more of a godsend if Guillermo plays the hobbit as well.

The coen brothers are in the 10 % of filmmakers that understand what filmmaking is all about. The rest are brainless Hollywood zombies with camera's and big budgets.

I am hoping the Coen's insert more than a few nods to Leone.
