Storyboard Pitch Earns Young Filmmaker a Three-Pic Deal
by Scott Weinberg | March 04, 2005
Discuss Article
Indie filmmaker Michael Davis ("Monster Man," "100 Girls"Wink earned himself a sweet deal the hard way: he drew over 17,000 separate storyboards to indicate to the New Line execs how he could shoot the extensive action scenes in his (now upcoming) "Shoot 'Em Up." Apparently the New Line folks were so impressed with this display that not only did Davis get the green-light for the 'hardcore action' project "Shoot 'Em Up" - he got a three picture deal!

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that! That's cool. Now I know it could work.

I have a dream of trying it too. It's an intimidating prospect, isn't it? Movie executives seem so distant and scary... it definitely makes me feel small, hopeless and insignificant. But you can only suceed if you try. Good luck, Senh.

Wow, awesome luck for that guy. I've written six screenplays and am having a real hard time breaking into the biz. Could be because I keep referring to it as "The biz".

I'm not a scriptwriter myself, but I just published a novel which I think would make a great film. I'm nowhere near pitching it to anyone, though- I'm just waiting to see how people recieve it.
Good luck to you too, Elessar. The writing world can be pretty competitive, eh?

that is an accomplishment, the last person to do that was Peter Jackson.

awesome
maybe people will seek out 100 Girls and worship it once he becomes famous. it's not what i'd label a classic, but as far as teen movies go it played so well that i wondered why i'd never heard of it. congrats to you, Mr. Davis!

Apparently you only have to direct 6 films before you get a deal...that's REAL encouraging.
