Trailer Bulletin: Poseidon
by Scott Weinberg | December 14, 2005
Discuss Article
You won't be able to enjoy the capsizing of the "Poseidon" until May of 2006, but Warner Bros. has put together a pretty cool teaser trailer that's now available on the "Poseidon" trailer page, here.

"When a rogue wave capsizes a luxury cruise ship in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, a small group of survivors find themselves unlikely allies in a battle for their lives. Preferring to test the odds alone, career gambler John Dylan ignores captain's orders to wait below for possible rescue and sets out to find his own way to safety. What begins as a solo mission soon draws others, as Dylan is followed by a desperate father searching for his daughter and her fiancé--a young couple who hours before couldn't summon the courage to tell him they were engaged and now face much graver challenges. Along the way they are joined by a single mother and her wise-beyond-his-years son, an anxious stowaway and a despondent fellow passenger who boarded the ship not sure he wanted to live but now knows he doesn’t want to die. Determined to fight their way to the surface, the group sets off through the disorienting maze of twisted steel in the upside-down wreckage. As the unstable vessel rapidly fills with water each must draw on skills and strengths they didn't even know they possessed, fighting against time for their own survival and for each other."

"Poseidon" is, of course, based on the 1972 disaster classic "The Poseidon Adventure," and it stars Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Richard Dreyfuss, Jacinda Barrett, Emmy Rossum, Kevin Dillon, and a host of others.

This looks very promising, now that I've seen the teaser.

Another pointless remake of a movie that wasn't all that good to begin with.

Looks good. Saw the original when I was a little kid and loved it. Maybe kids nowadays will feel the same way about this one. P.S. Who's playing the fat woman?

This one has a safe little gay character in it as well (played by Richard Dreyfus). Guess what angle the promoters will use if Brokeback Mountain wins the Oscar for Best Picture?

The original shows how Hollywood was in transition at that time with the star-studed cast and large-budget (Watch the Star Wars doc on the DVD.You'll get the idea). Could this remake signal another change? Maybe not, but its interesting...

I will not go see this movie expecting good acting, but what I will go into the movie theater seeing this.. my reasons will be 2.

1. I loved the first one.

2. To have fun.

I don't expect to see something that is an Award Winning movie, just somethign to have fun at.

i don't get it, if the ship is filling with water, why would you wait at the bottom where the water is?

Because the boat capsizes and the bottom is at the top.

I just saw the original.

It sucked.

Another example of Hollywood running the idea well dry.

FANTASTIC.
Man, that GIGANTIC wave is AWESOME!! I loved all of Wolfgang Peterson's movies! Yes, "Troy" was a great, stylish period adventure (so, Damn the sarcastic critics!) and the "Perfect Storm" was awe-aspiring... Wolfgang, man, your name on the credits is enough, pal. I'm gonna rush to see this one. Adventure on high-octans is guaranteed!

What is the story?
I never saw the orignal, but a boat capizing can't fill up an entire movie, can it? What happens after it capsizes?

Check out the orginal ieatfood, and ignore gbwillner's snooty comment. The movie far from sucks. It's a fun little disaster flick based on an even better book. It's actually my King Kong, in the sense that it made me want to get into the film business. What happens after the ship capsizes is that the survivors must try to figure out a way to get out of the ship. So they end up having to work their way to the bottom of the ship through the upside-down hell that it has become. Their is some conflict amongst the survivors on the right course of action, and of course, not everyone makes it. Do check out the original and just keep in mind it was made in 1974. The effects are dated but they rocked for the time.
