more info...
Guerrero

Forget Tijuana or Cancun, Guerrero is the real party destination in Mexico. The state is home to Acapulco, which was graced by Elvis Presley in the 1963 beach romp Fun in Acapulco, where he tussled with lifeguards and took a job as a hotel crooner.

And about 100 miles up Guerrero's coast, you'll come across the seaside town of Zihuatanejo. Sound familiar? It's the symbolism-heavy place Andy Dufrense dreamt about for nearly two decades in The Shawshank Redemption.

I just liked how "Beck's" credit on the poster was as big as the title for "Nacho Libre" in my theater....

There are other interesting movies made in Mexico; Serguei Eisenstein went to Oaxaca for his unfinished Que viva México. Elia Kazan's Zapata also was filmed here.

I'm from Pachuca, and we've had interesting productions around, like Dune, Conan the Barbarian and Gringo Viejo.

Another one I love is John Huston's The Night of the Iguana, made in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

Beautiful country Mexico.I did some backpacking there last year. When i arrived at a little city called campeche ,they were transforming the whole zocalo to shoot a movie about Che Guevara(that's what the locals told me).I think it was the Steven Soderbergh one but i'm not sure.

Sorry to say you got it wrong, both the book and the movie of "no country for old men" and "como agua para chocolate", were made in Piedras Negras, Coahuila about 40 miles from Acuna!

Nice list! Thanks for the info, although you guys forgot "COMMANDO" with the governator, which was shot in the jungles of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Jalisco, also with the governator, the movie "TOTAL RECALL", which was shot entirely in Mexico City or Federal District as you put it, and lastly, James Cameron "TITANIC" which was shot mostly in the Fox Baja Studios in Baja California, close to Ensenada.

John Huston didn't direct "The Magnificent Seven" - John Sturges did.

Other than that, good feature.

I live in Mexico City, is a wonderful place. Man on Fire shows the dark side of it, but I have to say that "the fiery explosions that regularly occur there" is not accurate. An explosion is a very, very weird thing in Mexico City. Bank robbery, violence in some areas, maybe, but no explosions.

Ringo Star's "The Caveman" was filmed in Mexico (Durango and Mexico City if I'm not mistaken). "Romancing The Stone" with Michael Douglas and Katelyn Turner was also filmed in Mexico. "Original Sin" with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie takes place in the town called Tlaxcala, from the state of the same name. "Before Night Falls" with Javier Bardem was filmed in the city of Veracruz, playing as la Havana, Cuba.
Wierd enough, in the United States you can find the DVD from Alfonso Cuaron's first film "Solo con tu Pareja" (It's not available in Mexico) that also shows some typical places from Mexico City.
