Director Hired for Live-Action Snow White Epic
And it's Disney who's making it, too.

Disney's turning Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into a live-action action drama, and they just got the guy who helmed Constantine to direct it. And no, today is not April First.

The long-gestating project is working under the title of "Snow and the Seven," but The Hollywood Reporter indicates that this is only a temporary label. The project's been through a bunch of screenwriters, but Disney and new director Francis Lawrence seem ready to get production rolling early next year in China. (Yuen Woon-ping was hired to orchestrate the fight sequences!)

Our source provides a handy plot synopsis: "The story, a fantasy adventure, centers on a British girl being raised in 19th century Hong Kong. When she realizes her destiny is to conquer an evil force, she must prepare to fight by being trained by seven Shaolin monks."

In addition to Constantine, Mr. Lawrence also directed I Am Legend, the big-budget Will Smith sci-fi flick that's scheduled for release this Christmas.

So who would you get for the lead here? Jessica Biel or Scarlett Johansson?

Holy **** I was just talking about this idea yesterday and they actually did it... does the original picture have enough elements to convey the same story through live action? The animation was kind of essential...

Nevermind, I actually read this news post. Shaolin monks? Evil forces to conquer? Can Jackie Chan be dopey?

i thought they already did a live action tv movie thing with brandi or something. this sounds dumb. i saw this flick as a kid, so i don't remember the xact details but i know she wasn't some swift 2ss kicker that was trained by monks. can't wait till they sell out Lion King...that should be a nice flick of aliens coming to africa and playing soccer with the lions, and the winner takes over earth. ya can't take a TINY bit from a past movie and just use the name. jeez...

If they push the plot up to modern times we can even get an omega Communist warlord'esque leader.

Memo to Hollywood: there's more to originality than adding a twist to a worn-out story. Besides, this very concept has by now become so worn-out, it's no longer original.

This movie needs more explanation. Is it a live-action version of the classic animation, or are they just taking elements from that and making a whole new movie from it?

I mean, I'm fairly certain the original story wasn't at all about:

"The story centers on a British girl being raised in 19th century Hong Kong. When she realizes her destiny is to conquer an evil force, she must prepare to fight by being trained by seven Shaolin monks."

That isn't even "a twist" on Snow White, that's an entirely different story, with 7 Shaolin monks...

.. definitely a weird news piece, that's for sure.

I don't mind the idea of a live action Snow White, but not with the Constantine guy. Aren't there any good directors out there anymore?

Why would guys list competent actresses to be involved in this schlock?

Clearly it has to be Buffy once she is done maiming Alice in Wonderland themes.
