But Claudia Larson's woes begin right before she flies home: she loses her job, and her teenage daughter swears she will lose her virginity while Claudia is away. And when she arrives at her parents' home, things do not improve, thanks to Claudia's quirky family. This includes her meddling mom, an obnoxious gay brother, her unsmiling, resentful sister, and a very odd, flatulent aunt. The next two days will prove difficult for Claudia, but they will not be without moments of tenderness, caring and love. [More]

This has its fair share of laugh out loud moments and a good deal of heart.

It's likeable in that cosy, wet Sunday afternoon, family sort of way.

A modest film (in every sense) which pushes the gags too hard.

Jodie Foster has directed a poisoned paean to the great American tradition of torturous family gatherings.

This movie is about fixing the little cracks in love, and it's a fine example of the restorer's art.

Jodie Foster follows up her directing debut with this underrated, intelligent comedy.

The real staying power in Home for the Holidays is the uncanny resemblance bits of the film seem to have with our very own dysfunctional holiday experiences.

You wouldn't want to spend too much time here, but a weekend's good value

For the holidays or any other time of the year there's no place like Jodie Foster's deliciously warm-hearted and well-observed comedy.

Foster's second directorial effort is a vividly drawn if too episodic portrait of an eccentric family, well acted by the entire cast, especially Holly Hunter and Robery Downey Jr.

A wonderful, big-hearted, messy Thanksgiving story.

Any screen that shares the likes of Danes, Downey and Durning at the least promises certain pleasures, and this cast delivers...

This is a film that has a lot going for it, but loses points on trying too hard to have too easy a finish.

Perhaps the most realistic holiday movie I've ever seen, this oddly charming, poignant, and blackly funny film is a treasure not to be missed.

Neither caustic nor sentimental, it's a film that maybe half the people on Earth have at one time considered writing.
