Effects apart, this is dire: predictable, clichéd, sloppily written, pitifully performed and surprisingly short of real shocks and suspense.

The group, led by the gutsy Jo and her macho, soon-to-be-ex Bill, have invented "Dorothy," a tank containing sensors that can provide much-needed info about these mysterious, severe weather conditions. But in order for Dorothy to work, she first must be swallowed by a twister. So Jo, Bill, and the gang put their lives on the line innumerable times, as getting close to the storm means dodging everything from windswept cattle to flying oil tankers. For Jo and Bill in particular, making meteorological history means having firsthand experience of the inside of a twister... [More]

Reviews for Twister
Hunt and Paxton play off each other well. We don’t learn a whole lot about their characters, but it’s impossible to not cheer for them anyway.
None of the individual characters draw much compassion; with uncharismatic heroes and black-and-white villains, all that's left to root for are the twisters, which are formidably rendered.
A movie with wooden performances, a color-by-numbers screenplay, and some mighty cool but hardly revolutionary special effects.
The movie is wall-to-wall with special effects, and they're all convincing, although it's impossible for me to explain how Bill and Jo escape serious injury while staring right up into the Suck Zone of the Finger of God.
Cheguei à conclusão, depois de assistir a este filme, que paguei o ingresso para ver uma vaca voando e o trailer de 'Missão: Impossível'.
Even though the plot is more predictable than the path of a tornado, it's still exciting entertainment.
The story is pretty thin, but the gee-whiz effects -- especially in an auditorium with good stereo sound -- are guaranteed to knock the audience for a loop.
The plot is thin and the characters are shallow. But who cares! The picture and sound are knockouts.
Twister isn't the brilliant machine that Speed was, but it often packs a comparable wallop.
Special-effects highlight this Jan DeBont-directed blockbuster that's ruined by cliched plotting and irritating characters.
Surely the only movie to ever suggest a dumbed-down His Girl Friday, Road Runner cartoon, and The Abyss simultaneously
Never before have I experienced a picture that could have been so good and that had so much going for it, that blew it so badly.
