She's currently obsessed with finding the perfect man for her friend Harriet. But what appears to be a simple task becomes a nightmare, as Emma's machinations set off a chain reaction of misunderstandings between a number of people. Reviews for Emma
It is necessary to report that Paltrow is the biggest drawback of Douglas McGrath's Jane Austen adaptation Emma.
Emma has all the misplaced seriousness of a documentary on genital warts.
Despite my lack of Austen education, I found the film to be thoroughly engaging and surprisingly touching, so I can only imagine how pleased a true Austen-ite may be with Emma.
Douglas McGrath's new adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma has certainly captured its elegantly comic possibilities. nd much of the credit must go to McGrath's casting of the eminently luminous Gwyneth Paltrow as the title character.
