Consensus: Critics say Committed is one of those films that shows promise -- some sort of vision -- of what the movie could have been. The key word is "could." As it is, the script is predictable, the story becomes tedious, and it's simply not funny. Heather Graham shows she can play a central character, but she's not enough to make Committed successful.

Ever since Joline (HEATHER GRAHAM) married Carl (LUKE WILSON), she's madly in love, emotionally bonded and totally committed... even though Carl walked out on her two weeks ago.
Convinced she can save her marriage, she drives two thousand miles west on a comic adventure to track down her wayward husband. Along the way, she has close calls with a pair of highway robbers, a Mexican witchdoctor and more than one cactus.
But the real odyssey begins when Joline winds up in El Paso, Texas, finds Carl and stakes out his new life...from her car. With a little help from her brother Jay (CASEY AFFLECK) his new girlfriend Carmen (PATRICIA VELASQUEZ) and Neil (GORAN VISNJIC), her tantalizing "neighbor," she discovers the ups and downs of being the most committed woman in America.

Reviews for Committed
Ambiguous enough to let you contemplate the thin line between love and obsession.
It mistakes the accumulation of odd moments for character development -- and for the most part these characters remain fairly inscrutable.
Combines what seems like every indie cliché into a single motion picture.
Challenges us to ponder the importance of promises, the power of love, the difficulty of keeping faith with one another, and the long, hard road of zeal.
Not only does Committed bottom out on the old Whims-O-Meter, but it achieves notoriety by rendering indie poster girl Heather Graham thoroughly wearisome.
Committed boldly sifts through our all too human absurdities, but it never loses its path to the final message, and one well worth waiting for.
A preachy mess that may have had good intentions, but any possible impact is left in a ditch at the side of the road.
In Committed [Graham] finally gets the chance to carry a movie, and she does so admirably.
One can only imagine how different the film might have been with, say, Parker Posey or Catherine Keener.
Like Joline, Committed is pretty to look at but ultimately too irritating to spend 90 minutes with.
Until it backs itself into a narrative corner, Lisa Krueger's Committed. is a delightfully unpredictable experience.
The romantic tale becomes redundant, with scripter Krueger struggling for inspiration -- and viewers quickly losing interest in her idiosyncratic protagonist.
Krueger deserves credit for pulling off what amounts to a madcap date movie.
Families who see the movie should discuss the challenge of maintaining a balance between supporting the person you love and enabling destructive or self-destructive behavior.
So enamored to have Graham's participation it forgets that it might actually be about something worthwhile.
