Consensus: A light and predictable, if somewhat shallow, romantic comedy that's easy to sit through because of the charming leads.

Runtime: 1 hr 37 mins

Genre: Comedies

Six weeks into their... After a series of ill-fated relationships, Jane (Ashley Judd) has finally met Mr. Right, Ray (Greg Kinnear), who is emotionally available, and not afraid of commitment. Six weeks into their blissful courtship, he asks her to move in with him, and they start looking at apartments. But little by little Ray starts to pull away, until Jane realizes that once again she's been dumped. Jane's womanizing coworker, Eddie, just happens to be looking for a roommate, and Jane reluctantly moves in. Desperate to understand what happened, Jane comes up with a theory of interpreting male-female relations by observing the behaviors of wild animals. She shares this idea with a friend who works at a men's magazine (Marisa Tomei) and is given an anonymous editorial column devoted solely to her thoughts on the matter. But no one could have predicted the chord she'd strike among women with her theory, and the column's wild success makes Jane start to question her conclusions--and opens her eyes to what might be right in front of her. Adapted from the novel ANIMAL HUSBANDRY by Laura Zigman, SOMEONE LIKE YOU is a bittersweet, funny romantic comedy, and handsome, charming Hugh Jackman shines as Jane's serial-dating coworker. [More]

Lacks the flair of its literary predecessor.

An enjoyable pastry of a film that, for the first time in years, shows off Judd's considerable talents to full effect.

Men are from Mars, women are from Venus, Someone Like You is from Hollywood's bottomless box of cliches.

A relaxed and sassy romantic comedy ripe with tart observations on sexual politics.

Worth seeing because its fresh, engaging stars inject realistic behavior into unreal situations.

So witless, sit-com shallow and bad in every way that it's just not worthy of much discussion.

Someone Like You hammers so hard at its cutesy premise of animal-mating-ritual theories that it fairly numbs you.

Even with Judd, Kinnear and science in his herd, Goldwyn can't keep Someone Like You from giving viewers plenty to beef about.

This may be a 'chick flick' or, I suppose, a 'cow flick.' But I'd like to know what 'bull' can resist that.

A pleasant if unexciting update of a '50s career-girl melodrama, substituting an experienced, disillusioned heroine for the virginal innocents of time past.
