Jeanne Tripplehorn Tending Grey Gardens
Documentary goes from screen to stage and back again.

Long a cult classic among the morbidly curious, 1975's Grey Gardens -- a documentary about two down-on-their-luck members of the Bouvier family -- has become a hip source of material for adaptations.

First came last year's Tony-winning Broadway musical, which starred Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson as "Little" Edie Beale and her mother, Edith Bouvier Beale, the New York aristocrats whose dysfunctional relationship and slow socioeconomic downfall is traced in two acts, with music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie. Next up? A (non-musical) film for HBO.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeanne Tripplehorn has just joined the Grey Gardens cast as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, placing her alongside Jessica Lange, Drew Barrymore, Daniel Baldwin, Ken Howard, and Arye Gross -- who will play Albert Maysles, one of the filmmakers behind the original Grey Gardens documentary.

Confused yet?

HBO's Grey Gardens, which started filming late last month in Toronto, will be directed by Michael Sucsy, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Patricia Rozema.

No matter how this turns out, it won't be able to touch the original documentary.

grey gardens the original still haunts my dreams. creepy isn't really the word. the only word i can think of to describe the original is bohemian, and that doesn't really have the negative tone i was hoping for. so if anyone out there knows a word that means both bohemian and demented, that'd be the one to describe it.
