Synopsis: Fereshteh (Niki Karimi) is attending school away from home when she becomes prey for a maniacal stalker. Acting without understanding, her father summons her home where Fereshteh is then promised... Fereshteh (Niki Karimi) is attending school away from home when she becomes prey for a maniacal stalker. Acting without understanding, her father summons her home where Fereshteh is then promised to a traditional man from her village. Her new home life is fraught with abuse while love is remarkably absent from the home of the newlyweds. This contrasts sharply with the life of Roya (Marila Zare'i), a friend of Fereshteh's who retains her independence by living in the city. Tahmineh Milani, who would later be imprisoned for the images in herfilms, wrote and directed this defiant picture, a revealing work about women's roles and lives in contemporary Iran. [More]

The whiney, argumentative tone between Fereshteh and her father, then with her husband... becomes tiresome and erodes sympathy

With The Hidden Half, is worth watching because of the political stir and the quality of the storytelling in both films

Two Women deals in the details of daily life in post-revolutionary Iran: In the unspoken ways that a woman's duties, her clothing, her behavior, who she speaks to, what she says, all express her servitude in a male-dominated society.
