Living in a low-income neighborhood in the Bronx with her husband and teenage son, Dolores commutes to work every day in some of the most upscale residences of Manhattan. Like a fly on the wall, she silently cleans the fantastic mansions of the clients she serves, observing their lives and their dilemmas with secret dedication. Though their extravagant lifestyles and family problems seem distant and even ridiculous to Dolores, she is nonetheless sweet and understanding to them. Dolores is thankful to have the job that she does, because she is an illegal alien, paid under the table, and her worst fear is being found out and sent back to El Salvador. Yet she dreams of earning enough money to return home and live comfortably. Director Nancy Savoca presents Dolores' story with grace and artistry, adding frequent light and comic moments to a truly moving plot. This film screened at the SXSW 2003 film festival in Austin, Texas. [More]
