Southeastern Critics Chime in With Their Picks

The 2005 Southeastern Film Critics Association Awards announced their annual awards on Monday, Dec. 19, in Atlanta, Ga. Forty-two members in nine states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia) voted in the 14th annual SEFCA poll.

BEST FOREIGN-LANGUAGE FILM
Winner - "Caché"

Winner - Ang Lee, "Brokeback Mountain"
Runner-up - George Clooney, "Good Night, and Good Luck."

BEST ACTOR
Winner - Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote"
Runner up - Heath Ledger, "Brokeback Mountain"

BEST ACTRESS
Winner - Felicity Huffman, "Transamerica"

Winners - Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, "Brokeback Mountain"

BEST ANIMATED FILM
Winner - "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"

WYATT AWARD
Winner - "Junebug"
Runner-up - "Hustle & Flow"

The Wyatt, given in memory of late SEFCA member Gene Wyatt of The Tennessean, is awarded a film that captures the spirit of the South. This is the first year a recipient has been chosen.

I'm just happy that Crash won best original screenplay, and that Giamatti won an award for Cinderella Man.
