Too seldom clever, too often tiresomely busy, and wasteful of its voice cast, it's Hoodwinked that is the crime.

Virtually everyone knows the story of Little Red Riding Hood, the young girl who brings a basketful of goodies to her Granny's house only to discover the Big Bad Wolf impersonating her beloved grandmother. In this digitally animated version of the classic tale, a bolder Red (Anne Hathaway) is a delivery girl for her Granny's sweets shop. The Big Bad Wolf (Patrick Warburton) is there as well, but this time he's not exactly a threat. As for Granny (Glenn Close), she's hardly frail and sickly; she has a big secret that she's keeping from everyone--including Red. Finally, there's the Woodsman (Jim Belushi), a struggling actor who drives a schnitzel-on-a-stick truck by day. When this foursome collides, they become suspects in an investigation by Detective Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), Chief Grizzly (Xzibit) and Detective Bill Stork (Anthony Anderson). The police are also trying to track down the Goody Bandit, who is stealing all of the best recipes from the forest's sweet shops. By examining each character's story, Flippers is sure he can figure out not only what happened at Granny's that day, but also the identity of the Goody Bandit. Through flashbacks punctuated by original songs, Red, Wolf, Woodsman, and Granny each relay to Flippers their outrageous adventures from that day, from extreme skiing to hang gliding to falling out of a cable car to log rolling. Soon they all have an idea who the thief is. But can they stop the Goody Bandit from wreaking more havoc and monopolizing the sweets industry? Andy Dick also stars as the voice of Boingo. [More]

Reviews for Hoodwinked
...spoofing classic fairy tales is [an idea] almost as old as [its] animation techniques...
It's as if Hoodwinked was put together in some back alley with a Commodore 64.
... behind the candy colors and nostalgia-laced animation style is a tired tale that never comes to life.
Little Red Riding Hood gets deconstructed in this sub-Shrek bummer, the latest collaboration between computers and cynicism.
Thanks to the clever script and witty performances, this is as filled with goodies as Little Red's basket.
Why would a distributor suddenly yank an animated family film from its intended wide December opening until mid-January? Could it be that the advance word of mouth wasn't very good-winked?
This animated tale about 'what really happened' among the Wolf, Grandma, Red and the Woodsman doesn't excel in any department, from unspectacular computer animation to routine voice talent.
Hoodwinked is a delicious little basket of goodies, from its quick-witted humor to its colorful animation.
As marketing theory, Hoodwinked makes a little sense. Too bad, then, it's so crummy.
It’s a sad case of Red opening up her goodie basket and finding that there’s nothing there.
It doesn't rival the artistry of Pixar or DreamWorks, but it's got an upstart charm, a clever premise, appealing characters voiced by a terrific cast and a script that should make you laugh out loud more than once.
Hoodwinked -- which is the latest cartoon recycling of that oft-told fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood -- may be a bit scrappy-looking, but it's also pretty funny at times.
At least Hoodwinked is fun to look at when nondescript musical numbers or uninspiring characters fail to please.
Lacking a budget for big-time effects, the makers of Hoodwinked clearly had more time to work on the jokes.
Nearly every line of dialogue has been awkwardly tweaked into some sort of winking joke.
While the visuals, which seem a little blocky and outdated, aren't at all cutting-edge, parents will take a good story over elaborate graphics any day of the week.
