While Francis (Judson Pearce Morgan), and his best friend Alan (Neil Hopkins) attend the festivities, they are led into a sensational sideshow exhibit that will change their lives forever. Inside his murky tent, sinister hypnotist Dr. Caligari (Daamen Krall) is the keeper of the clairvoyant sleepwalker Cesare (Doug Jones), who wakes from his endless night to predict Alan's terrifying future. Soon after, Holstenwall suffers a series of murders, and Francis alone suspects the Doctor and his mysterious somnambulist. With no help from the town's chief inspector, Francis decides to take matters into his own hands. But what he doesn't know is the only way to save his fiance, Jane (Lauren Birkell), from the same grim fate is to discover the secret of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. --© Official Site [More]

It's the movie equivalent of bad fan fiction, really.

Interesting only for about as long as it takes to realize that Fisher has honored Weine's expressionist aesthetic but hasn't improved the original's creaky plotline.

A competent curio reimagining of the silent-era classic.

An undeniably clever commingling of a new cast (and spoken dialogue) with a silent classic. But pic fails to engage consistently on its own terms, and begins to coast on novelty value around the midway point.

In his semi-remake of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the director David Lee Fisher has accomplished something rather startling: he has out-disoriented the original.

Fisher's dialogue draws heavily on the original film's intertitles and script directions and the addition of sound is a plus for moviegoers uncomfortable with the artificial embarrassment of silence.

Although technically impressive, the remake is dramatically inert, as the set becomes a motionless backdrop to theatrical line readings instead of a pulsing manifestation of diseased minds.
