Overbearing bridezilla Kate (Eva Longoria Parker) is reviewing final details at the reception venue on her wedding day when the unthinkable happens: she's crushed by an ice sculpture of an angel before she makes it to the altar. A year later, her fiancé, Henry (Paul Rudd), is still devastated. To appease his concerned sister, Chloe (Lindsay Sloan), he visits Ashley (Lake Bell), a caterer and sometime psychic, in an attempt to contact Kate in the afterlife and gain some closure. Henry and Ashley hit it off, but misguided spirit Kate hasn't quite made it to heaven yet, and takes to haunting Ashley to protect her ex-fiancé from his potential new love interest. Will this otherworldly interference keep Henry from moving on with Ashley? Or will Kate realize that the best gift she can give Henry is happiness with someone new? Jason Biggs stars as Dan, Ashley's best friend and catering partner, who is a hiding a big secret from her. Rudd is his usual likable self as Henry, a veterinarian who manages to find humor in every situation despite his lingering sadness. Watch for a very amusing scene with his pet parrot. Longoria looks great as a very fashionable ghost, sporting a new hairdo and a new white outfit almost every time she appears on screen. Bell exudes an air of earnestness and optimism as Ashley, who decides that love is worth being haunted by a ghost. Character actor Stephen Root appears as the ice sculptor. [More]

A languid, thinly sketched and habitually unfunny supernatural comedy.

Disappointing comedy that struggles to overcome the combination of unlikeable characters, a poorly judged, largely unfunny script and a distinct lack of chemistry between the leads.

A desperately unfunny farce that doesn't need an audience so much as an exorcist.

The film -- pinched from Ghost in every relevant particular -- is pretty moderate.

For what it is -- a romantic comedy about the rivalry between a jealous ghost and a flaky psychic for the love of a veterinarian -- Over Her Dead Body is not bad.

For all its faults, Over Her Dead Body offers at least a few sporadic laughs, which automatically makes it one of the less awful January-February releases.

Lowell has little to say about loss and love. But there's a talking parrot, and on some days, that's enough.

Just enough laughs to make it watchable, despite Longoria's insufferable performance.

The writing is intelligent, the pratfalls mostly work, and everyone is having a good time.

the formula is a pretty simple one that works with just a few tweaks here and there to make it different from the rest.

Derivative doesn't always mean dull, and this madcap paranormal love triangle is charming on its own terms.

This is no career high, but it's impossible to actively dislike Rudd.

A wild and wicked catfight comic romp as Eva Longoria gets booted up to heaven and returns to planet earth with hell to pay, when she fumes over sharing her man. No, not that one!

The quirky romantic comedy works largely because of good writing, and Rudd's deadpan delivery of same. That he can do so as slapstick erupts around him makes it all the funnier.

There are some flat-out great moments in a largely mediocre film, which is enough to shoot it to the very top of its class - it is midwinter, after all.

This is a film that's completely happy being its silly little self. And if it produces some giggles along the way -- and it does -- it has done its job.

An unsurprising entry in that hoary micro-genre of romantic comedies to feature a fresh-from-the-corpse disembodied spirit who just can't seem to get a move-on.
