Matthew Perry to Wake Up Looking Like Zac Efron
Like The Metamorphosis, only dreamier!
by Jeff Giles | November 28, 2007
Discuss Article
When you look at Zac Efron, do you see a younger version of Matthew Perry?

New Line hopes you do, because Efron will play Perry's 17-year-old self in 17, a teen comedy to be directed by Burr Steers. In the film, Perry and Efron will add a new twist to the age-swapping tradition proudly established by such notable comedy duos as Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage (Vice Versa), Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron (Like Father, Like Son), and, of course, George Burns and Charlie Schlatter (18 Again!). The Hollywood Reporter summarizes the story below:

In a scenario that turns the concept of "Big" on its head, the Jason Filardi-penned script follows a middle-aged father who wakes up to find he's 17 again. In order to be close to his children, he enrolls in the same school as them.

Perry, who recently wrapped The Laws of Motion with Ginnifer Goodwin, Hilary Swank, and Ben Foster, joins a cast that also includes Leslie Mann. Production on 17 is scheduled to begin early next month.

There is no way this film could top Vice/Versa or Live Father, Like Son. Those films were pure dramatic masterpieces. This formula is just too brilliant to let any year go by without having a film with an actor waking up to find themselves younger or older. You forgot to include a few other great epics on your list:

13 Going On 30
All the versions of "Freaky Friday"
"Down to Earth" AND "Heaven Can Wait"
Dream a Little Dream part 1 AND 2

There's probably many more

What really depresses me about this is how much closer in age I am to Perry, who's being touted as 'middle-aged,' than I am to Efron... 'middle-aged' ..feh.

i still can't see nor hear Kirk Cameron's name without remembering that hilarious vid of him and the banana. i never knew he was insane before that. i might add that was honestly one of the scariest videos i've ever seen, knowing people in real life are THAT delusional...

This sounds like the unholy bastard-offspring of 'Big' and 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' I, for one, hope many valuable life lessons will be learned by all involved.

If any of you have ever been to the Dark Knight boards on IMDb, you may or may not know that Zac Efron is a huge joke to me and the other regulars on that board. Seriously, it's just too easy to make fun of the guy. And Matthew Perry, there's a promising film career he's had.

Needless to say, this won't be one of my must-see films.

No it called the reason why Hollywood bellyaches and bitches about not making enough money. Really a movie with a has-been and future has-been. Zac Efron can't act if his life depended on it. The only actor that Disney has produced is LaBouf since the Mickey Mouse Club days. (i.e Ryan Gosling) So watch as this movie gets torn about by everyone except your 6th grade sister. This movie should simply burn.

No doubt they'll be a little Back To The Future thrown in there when Efron's daughter inevitably develops a crush on him. I wonder how much money somebody spent to make this movie... sad thing is they'll probably make it back again and then some.

I will definitely be needing my life's lessons batteries recharged in the next 12 months or so once Enchanted has worn out.
