"Long Good Friday" Remake, "88 Minutes," Stephen Chow's Production Co. Sign With Sony
Sony is on the move at this year's Cannes Film Festival, as the company has announced the acquisition of Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of "The Long Good Friday." The 1980 original starred Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren in a story about a crime boss whose real estate plans are derailed by the IRA. Anderson's previous directorial efforts include 1995's "Mortal Kombat," 1997's "Event Horizon," and first two films in the "Resident Evil" series.
Sony's recent acquisitions also include Al Pacino's "88 Minutes," Legion," and "We Own the Night." All will be coming to the US market with the exception of "Legion," of which US rights are still being negotiated.
Sony has also announced a multi-pic deal with Stephen Chow's production company, Star Overseas. The first is a hip-hop dance romantic comedy starring Kitty Zhang called "Jump."

on May 23 2007 10:51 AM Anderson needs to stick to directing cheesy action movies. Although it could be worse, I thought this post was about another Ice Cube movie. (Reply to this) |
