Cameron Follows 8 Simple Rules for Bringing His Book to Theaters
Sequel to Ritter show's launchpad coming to screens.

It's gone from best-selling book to hit television series -- and now, W. Bruce Cameron's 8 Simple Rules is getting the feature film treatment.

The Hollywood Reporter shares the latest developments for Cameron's brainchild, announcing that 26 Films and The Devil Wears Prada producer Wendy Finerman are bringing 8 Simple Rules for Marrying My Daughter (the upcoming sequel to his 2001 book, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter) to the screen. From the article:

[Producer Michelle] Chydzik Sowa said the plot will revolve around a divorced dad juggling a younger girlfriend and two daughters who both get engaged at the same time. Other details haven't been revealed, but the book's subtitle -- "And Other Reasonable Advice From the Father of the Bride (Not that Anyone Is Paying Attention)" -- provides a clue. It will be published by Simon & Schuster imprint Fireside on April 8.

Cameron, who remains an award-winning nationally syndicated humor columnist, previously wrote 2006's Cook-Off! with Cathryn Michon; the duo will reunite to adapt the 8 Simple Rules film.

I wonder if comparisons to the TV show will be an issue, particularly if people will be able to watch this without being reminded of the tragic death of John Ritter...
