In the early 1990s, the children's cable network Nickelodeon produced a spate of television series that were funny, smart, and never pandered to--or insulted the intelligence of--its predominantly pre-teen audience. Originating as a series of shorts that aired during commercial breaks and then expanded to a full-length show, THE ADVENTURES OF PETE AND PETE was one of Nick's most imaginative outings. The offbeat series chronicled the suburban adolescence of two redheaded brothers with the same name--older brother Pete (Mike Maronna) and younger brother Pete (Danny Tamberelli)--in a surreal town populated by an oddball assortment of characters, including a militant Girl Scout, a lovelorn schoolbus driver, and a housewife with a steel plate in her head. The series also featured inspired guest turns by eccentric figures like Janeane Garofalo, Steve Buscemi, Michael Stipe, and even Iggy Pop. A quirky spin on the standard coming-of-age formula, THE ADVENTURES OF PETE AND PETE is resurrected in this collection of all 13 episodes from the series' second season. [More]
