Tired of playing lame gigs and trying to win over record executives, the band heads to its local radio station in a desperate attempt to have its demo played. Unfortunately, things go awry when toy guns are pulled out and mistaken for real ones in the heat of the moment, forcing the band to hold the station's employees hostage. Surrounded by the police and thousands of rock & roll fans who have flocked to the station, the boys become unlikely heroes, a voice for those who choose not to conform to corporate America. A little lighter than Michael Lehmann's dark comedy directorial debut HEATHERS, this film offers plenty of physical comedy from Michael Richards and Chris Farley as well as humorous performances from the boys in the band, Michael McKean as the station manager, and Joe Mantegna as DJ Ian the Shark. Live performances by White Zombie and the Galactic Cowboys set the tone for the film, which also boasts an impressive soundtrack. [More]

Reviews for Airheads
A bit of a mess, but one of Steve Buscemi's best performances before hitting the big time.
A spoof of heavy-metal culture that at the same time respects the vitality and pent-up passion behind it.
Fraser and Buscemi are deadpan delights. And Sandler, Opera Man on SNL, is a red-hot screen find.
Years later, it's much easier to appreciate this cast of then-unknowns which would develop into superstars.
Airheads commits the cardinal sin of satire: it's not sure what it's making fun of.
This film will...be quickly forgotten by anyone unfortunate enough to sit through it.
I wouldn’t advise you to rush out to see it, but if you like rock and roll, independent musicians, or Sandler, you might want to check it out.
Observing how fertile the field of heavy metal music is for satire, it's disappointing to watch Airheads bumble around, desperately trying to find something funny to say.
There should have been enough material here for six sitcoms. Instead, there's not even enough for one movie.
The anarchic saga could have used more bite or the hint of a threat just to keep things interesting.
