Jude Law to Reprise Michael Caine Again in "Sleuth" Remake

He did it in "Alfie," and he'll do it again. Jude Law will star in the remake of the 1972 thriller, "Sleuth," as an adulterous hairdresser opposite Michael Caine -- who appeared in the original as the hairdresser, opposite Sir Laurence Olivier.

Law must seem like a young Michael Caine to filmmakers, as he played another memorable Caine role as womanizing cad Alfie, in the 2004 remake of the same name. This time around, Caine's back as well, playing the role of the jealous writer husband who entices his wife's lover into a deadly mind game.

The "Sleuth" remake will be directed by Kenneth Branagh, with a screenplay by Harold Pinter ("The Handmaid's Tale"). The 1972 script was written by Anthony Shaffer from his own play.

While I'm not a fan of remakes, I think the original Sleuth is very dated in appearance and is one that could use a facelift. Having Michael Caine come back and appear in the new version certainly doesn't hurt its credibilty either.

While I'm not a fan of remakes....I hate the idea of this remake. At first I didn't like remakes, than I got really annoyed by them. Now I hate them with a passion.

Sleuth is not dated. It's awesome. All this remake is doing is trading the acting abilities of Sir Lawrence Olivier with that of Jude Law...and that is a tragedy. (I realize they are not playing the same character...but I don't think Jude Law has a chance at all of the challenges of Michael Caine's character)

I mean they already took the Bite out of "Alfie" the remake omitted the abortion scene which was the dark heart of the original and turned it into a much fluffier romantic comedy.

So boo. I say boo to this remake and any others that take a great, great, great movie and remake it for no apparent reason.

I love Michael Caine and I'm not sure that a remake is always such a good idea. Remaking Batman was good... But Wickerman bad, and this one too. Cult classics (however dated) are good for what they are as stories and as films. To imitate or try to redo something less-than-epic rarely works out. Mr. Caine doesn't deserve to have his performances reinterpretted by somebody so un-Michael Caine as Jude Law. No offense meant against him, though. He's a fine actor: he should just make his own movies.

to re-hash old ideas than to come up with new ones. Plus I think they believe the original will stand as some kind of advanced advertising. But, for every 5 Wicker Mans, there's one Charlies Angels, so they'll keep reaching for the brass ring until all that's left is crap.

The only way the a**holes in Hollywood will stop remaking movies is if the ticket-buying public stops going to see them. Boycott all remakes and TV-inspired movies. If enough people stop going to see these crapfests, maybe Hollywood will finally get the message.

You've got to be kidding me. Italian Job remake was terrible, Alfie remake was a joke, Get Carter remake..... please don't make me think of it. Micheal Caine doing this is upsetting because i hold him in such high regard and he has nothing to prove in doing this.

Jude Law should stop playing that dumb romantic comedy English, plummy idiot. It insults every Englishman.
