Dwight Little to Direct Tekken
"From the director of Anaconda 2 and the screenwriter of Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever..."
by Jeff Giles | December 20, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Thirteen years and eight games adds up to a whole bunch of potential for a feature film adaptation -- at least according to Dwight Little, who has agreed to direct a Tekken movie for Crystal Sky Pictures.

Variety reports that Little, whose most recent directorial efforts include Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and Murder at 1600, will helm the "futuristic martial arts actioner" from a script by Alan McElroy (Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever). The director breaks it down like so:

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people. It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

If you aren't familiar with the Tekken series, Little's "complicated storyline" comment might sound like a ridiculous way to describe a fighting game, but the Tekken plot is actually fairly thick (and absolutely ridiculous, but that's neither here nor there). And lest you snicker at the giant snakes on his resume, or his 24 percent average on the Tomatometer, it bears mentioning that Little knows a thing or two about martial arts flicks -- he was behind the lens for Brandon Lee's Rapid Fire, not to mention Steven Seagal's Marked for Death.

Why are you still snickering?

A guy who has directed a Steven Seagal movie, plus a script written by the worst reviewed movie ever with 0 fresh reviews out of 102, this is going to be a pile of crap.

The crew list combined with plot looks like somebody made a bet that they could make the worst film ever.

...and you want to know why video game movies have such a bad rep? Because this is who they get to direct and write them. There's only been one or two that have actually had decent enough people behind them to where they could be moderately good, and turns out they were.

This is gonna be just like the Mortal Kombat movie, the Double Dragon movie, and the Street Fighter movie. It's gonna suck. I agree with meatcake.

Hmmm, I happen to share the sentiment on why video game films are always crap. I mean christ, can they not get some true talent involved??

Only film that IMO is good is Silent Hill.

Steven Seagal as Heihachi and Chuck Norris as Paul are the only way to save this from the bowels of Hollywood Video Hell. This will be the in-flight movie that the CIA will make enemy combatants watch on their way to interrogated.

Right now, I'm getting flashbacks of Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter. I should write a horror script about this experience right here.

I had a thought, guys. Kinda like my Street Fighter/ Mortal Kombat II nightmare. In the dream, we didn't have either of the two films mentioned to so grossly deter us. And Tekken wound up miraculously being a film actually made for, dare I say, the actual fans of the franchise. Imagine....
