When his doctors inform him that he is suffering from anxiety attacks, he is forced to track down a shrink to help him get to the bottom of the problem. Billy Crystal costars as neurotic psychiatrist Ben Sobol, who is manipulated into treating the macho Mafia man, with hysterical results. Just as Ben and eager fiancée (Lisa Kudrow) are about to enter nuptial bliss, they are suddenly faced with a 24-hour responsibility to a mobster who won't take no for an answer. The hilarious hijinks ruin their first wedding and threaten to ruin the relationship as Paul battles his personal demons with the help of the initially unwilling shrink. As the two men's professional and private worlds collide, they are forced to realize their similarities as they join forces to battle the FBI and the impending threat of a Mafia takeover. Director Harold Ramis has crafter an intelligent, witty comedy that shows off the comic instincts of De Niro as never before. [More]

Harold Ramis has to take the blame for some sloppy direction here and there, but overall the end product is sound enough to get by, especially if the audience is big.

De Niro and Crystal are a crackerjack pairing, and their interplay is loony enough to make you forgive the movie being stuck in neutral most of the time.

Degrades so dramatically that in the last act Crystal is reduced to ad libbing through an over-long mock-wise guy schtick.

Funny partly because De Niro and Crystal do what we expect them to do, and partly because they don't.

The work of competent talents who knew exactly where the good-enough line was and didn't feel particularly inspired to push far beyond it.

As the movie plods on, the jokes start to fall flat.

It ends up a one-joke picture, with feeble variations.

Ramis has made a fleet, unself-conscious, eminently enjoyable picture, where one-liners carom merrily like stray bullets, and where there's casual ease, like the drape of a sharpster's trousers, in the rapport between its two stars.

This comedy with the deceptively glib premise is actually surprisingly funny, thanks to a chuckle-worthy performance by Robert De Niro.

Harold Ramis' Analyze This is the mob parody Billy Wilder or Preston Sturges might have made if they'd had access to Robert De Niro and the F-word.

Offers a rollicking good time, balancing drama, suspense, and action, as Vitti's psychological troubles have the audience literally howling with laughter.
