As a loss adjuster, Black is an important man to his English firm, Fortress Sure. He is encouraged by his supervisor, George Hogg (Stephen Rea), to be a star and to go that extra mile with the promise of a sizeable bonus. But simultaneously Black is receiving mixed information about the claim, and he begins to suspect that his colleagues are not being honest with him, and that there may even be some corrupt dealings behind the scenes. An outspoken coworker, Torquil Helvoir-Jayne (Hugh Bonneville), shocks Black with his philandering and immorality. Meanwhile, Black cannot sleep, haunted by the swirl of activity in his not-what-it-seems world. The only time he feels at ease is with Flavia (Catherine McCormack), an actress who appears in a Fortress Sure commercial. But she is married, and Black is already overwhelmed with every other aspect of his life. As the tension mounts, Black, an insomniac, finds it difficult to keep hiding all that he knows about the firm, as well as his own falsified identity. When he finally lets go, revealing everything, ARMADILLO comes to its climactic close. Directed by Howard Davies, this A&E original drama is a stylized and atmospheric film that shows how one man masks his identity as an outsider to compete within the connected, commandeering highbrow business world.
