Arrested Development Movie On Its Way?
This strike needs to end immediately.
Judging from the way the TV show went down, it would likely be one of the best-reviewed, lowest-grossing films of all time -- but fans of the dearly departed Fox series Arrested Development will doubtless be pleased to hear that a film spinoff is in the works.
E! Online has helped break the news, obtaining confirmation from Jason Bateman that the show's producers, Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard, "have put the wheels in motion" for an Arrested Development feature film. Just like everything else these days, the project's start date is dependent on a strike resolution, but Bateman's words are encouraging:
"I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started. Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed."
E! also reports that Bateman's fellow Development star, Jeffrey Tambor, was recently asked about his willingness to participate in a feature film adaptation; although you'll need to click on the link below to hear his full-length response, we can tell you it was enthusiastically affirmative.
According to the E! report, Hurwitz doesn't have a script written for the movie, but does have "a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested."

on Feb 04 2008 05:52 AM Why?!? If we all noticed it only won the Emmy for Best Comedy to try and boost ratings for it. That is all these shows were for in the first place. Back when the depression came about, the movie industry was failing because people could not afford to go so they created a awards show to show off the best of the film industry to get people back out and watch movies. Emmys are the same thing...did we all see that Arrested Development was cancelled after two seasons? And they call it a success? Ummm...pause, reflect, moving on. Did you also notice when 30 Rock won and Tina Fey thanked her dozens of fans? This is another attempt at boosting rating and viewers. I liked the first time Arrested Development came out and they had a song called "Mister Wendell." (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 04 2008 06:08 AM umm... not quite sure what you're getting at there, but I know I'd like to see some more Arrested Development. It was a hilarious show, and it has one of the most loyal fan bases for a comedy show I've ever seen. I just watched all 3 seasons on DVD in the last week. I'm pumped. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 04 2008 06:46 AM Great news - but I'm putting all my energy into hoping they do a worthwhile job and not do the movie just to make the movie. A bad follow-up movie would be worse than no movie at all, in my opinion. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Feb 04 2008 07:12 AM Arrested Development is one of the best TV shows ever. I'd absolutely love to see more seasons made, but a movie? I don't know if it will work. The comedy style of the show just works so well as a TV show. Don't get me wrong, I'll definately see the movie. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 04 2008 08:08 AM so if everyone loves it why does it have bad ratings? (i dont live in america and i only watch TV like once in a month^^) YEAH: (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 04 2008 08:38 AM In reply to this comment (#1552323) Because most Americans are too stupid to understand the humor of the show. Americans need dick jokes and can't follow a story. Look at our box office numbers. We go to "Meet the Spartans" and every crappy "Saw" movie that comes out. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 04 2008 09:44 AM I am so stoked for this. It really was the best show of the last decade of so. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 04 2008 09:45 AM "...so if everyone loves it why does it have bad ratings?" The show was famously involved and intricate, with jokes that referenced past jokes, flashbacks and flashforwards, tight plotting, with lots of quick cuts, documentary style footage, random asides, recurring characters and guest stars, and no laugh track to indicate where the jokes were. Arrested Development required the viewer to *pay attention* and that is where it differed from virtually every other sitcom on TV. It wasn't something you could put on and enjoy mindlessly. on Feb 04 2008 10:00 AM one of the best shows ever made... keeping my fingers crossed for its return AND the same cast (Reply to this) |

on Feb 04 2008 10:19 AM In reply to this comment (#1552508) hmm...true..seinfeld and friends can watched and one will get about every joke without any background knowledge....its kinda sad that a well thought idea shatters on the fact that it cant be enjoyed mindless... (Reply to this) |

![]() on Feb 04 2008 10:57 AM My favourite show of the past decade by far. The fact that this show couldn't find and audience is beyond me. "I just blue myself." "There's gotta be a better way to say that." (Reply to this) |
