"Arrested Development: The Movie"?
by Scott Weinberg | July 21, 2006
Discuss Article
Oh don't even tease me like this. I'm just now getting over the fact that "Arrested Development" has been canceled, and now comes a fresh batch of rumors that there might someday be a ... movie version? Has Fox made a huge mistake?

From IGN FilmForce: "Sitting in the trailer of Will Arnett for a cozy and inviting interview, IGN asked the actor about the possibility. "When did they say that? Yeah, there has been talk of that. I don't know exactly where they're at with that. I've talked about it with Mitch [Hurwitz] and Jason [Bateman] and a little bit with a bunch of people involved with the show and different producers... I'm pretty sure that, obviously it rests on Mitch, any sort of project like that would have to come from him. It would be something that he would be really passionate about. If the story was right and you felt like that the story was right, and by story I mean money, was large enough, then he'd do it…"

So while the possibility of an "AD" movie still seems pretty remote, it's nice to know that the idea's been floated around. At the very least, you got to read a rather cool Will Arnett interview, courtesy of IGNFF.

And if you still haven't given the show a shot, I highly recommend you do so. The third and (sniff) final season hits DVD shelves on August 29th.

I really hope that they make a movie.

I don't know, the show ended at a pretty neat place. It should stand as one of the best and most under-appreciated television series of the last decade at least. I wouldn't want to see a movie that would fail to bring to life the great parts of the show... I guess I don't see how they could do it.

Oh please say it's so. I'd love to see this on the big screen!

"Has Fox made a huge mistake?"

When hasn't fox made a huge mistake? The only sign of intelligence they've ever shown was keeping this show on for another season.

The movie would probably be a major box office disappointment - and one of the best comedies in recent history. So bring it on.

Firefly pulled it off
Serenity was based off of a cancelled show and rocked, and Arrested Developement was one of my all time favorite shows so bring it on. I'll be there it they do it. I really, really hope they do. Add a couple hundred reallys

"Serenity was based off of a cancelled show and rocked" Yeah and it made $5 dollars at the box-office! An "Arrested Development" movie would make even less!

killbill82, you a moron. I think i've written that
But it simply being made makes this seem less dismal and Serenity has done pretty well in the DVD market so... I think this is the second time I've seen you bash Serenity and Firefly. You probably hate Kevin Smith as well don't you? Go watch your mainstream movies and quit bashing cult classics

And, killbill82, do you judge all movies by how much money they make? Well then Little Man must be a wonderful movie and Cinderella Man is a piece of crap huh? I'd expect more from a fan of Kill Bill. Serenity is wonderful. You'd know so if you'd actually seen it.
But back to Arrested Developement, everyone should pull together and make sure it is made. I converted several people to fans before it was cancelled and we all took it pretty badly. Here's hoping this will be made and everyone will still be around.

It would be interesting to just see how they would pull something like that off and not make it look like a 2 hour episode and yet still stick to the essence of the show, since the show was very unquie.

Arrested Development was a great show that should not have ended, its to bad a majority of the television audience has little to no attention span!

But thank god we have the amazing " War at Home" to fill its time slot!!

whew........finally got that of my chest

To answer your queston no I don't, but if I'm a movie studio then yes I do pay attention the b.o. receipts more so then anything else. But all i said was "serenity" bombed, I didn't say it was a bad movie and I never said I haven't seen it. Hell it was fricking brilliant! Whedon is pretty much a genius!

If studios payed that much attention to b.o. numbers then they'd stop putting out these crap-tastic movies and blaming home theaters and movie pirates for the horrible ticket numbers.

Nothing Arnett said in that blurb sounds even remotely promising. "When did they say that?" Screams rumor. Since the series ended with a gag from Ron Howard about potentially turning the Bluths' lives into a feature, the "talk" that Arnett refers to was probably more of an on-set gag than anything else.

At any rate, I would want 12 seasons of AD and eight movies, but I'll just have to settle for feeling somewhat smug about having discovered its brilliance when it was still alive, at least.

I enjoyed the show a lot, but somehow I don't see this translating well to the big screen. Last weekend, I saw the Strangers With Candy movie and it was fun to see the characters again, but it didn't really add much to the series. It basically felt like a rehash, an extended episode with more filler.

Serenity, on the other hand, was a damn successful big screen adaptation, IMO, despite lackluster box office numbers. It captured the fun of the series and built on it, taking full advantage of the big screen, in terms of its scope, the visual effects.
