Stiller & Carrey Get "Used" in New Mexico
by Scott Weinberg | March 07, 2006

Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey are set to co-star for the first time in Jay Roach's "Used Guys," which is set to begin shooting in New Mexico this June. Director Roach (he directed all three "Austin Powers" movies) is a native of New Mexico, and everyone from his folks to the Governer are pretty excited about the project.

From the AP News Wire:

"A film starring Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller will start production in New Mexico in June. The comedy, entitled "Used Guys," will be directed by Albuquerque native Jay Roach. Roach joined Gov. Bill Richardson at a news conference in the Capitol on Monday to announce the Twentieth Century Fox film project, which has a $75 million budget.

Filming will start in Santa Fe in June and will continue through near the end of July, according to Roach, whose parents also attended the news conference.

"My parents have been lobbying me for 30 years, I think, to come and make a film here," said Roach, who directed the "Austin Powers" spy-spoof films, the comedy, "Meet the Parents," and its sequel, "Meet the Fockers." Roach graduated in 1975 from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque.

According to Richardson, the film is expected to hire more than 100 New Mexicans. The governor described the film as being "set in the future when women are running the world - and doing quite a good job of it."

Roach said preproduction work has started. "We're building little electric cars that you'll see buzzing around Santa Fe," he said.""

Interesting and long overdue pairing. I think they'll be good for each other's careers. One to watch for.

Jim Carrey is one of my favorite. The only movie of his I haven't seen was the Majestic. I also think Stiller would be a great actor to keep Jims antics in check, while still serving pleanty of laughs of his own. Can't wait.

I love Stiller, but he keeps playing the same character, or at least slipping into some thing like it in every movie. Ever since Heavyweights he has portrayed that same character. Granted, it's funny, but it's definitely getting a little old.

Honestly I hope this will be funny. I love Jim and Ben, and the Austin Powers movies really worked so it's only logical that this should be damn funny.
