First Pics from "Alien vs. Predator 2"
by Scott Weinberg | April 23, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Just in time for the release of Fox's "Alien vs. Predator 2" will arrive a new book over-stuffed with creature-laden production art. Unfortunately we have to wait until December for both the movie and the book. But...

If you check out the official site for the book called "Alien vs. Predator: Survival of the Fittest -- The Creature Effects of ADI," you just might catch a few quick glimpses of everyone's favorite homicidal aliens. Unfortunately some of the artwork has been blocked out, which begs an interesting question: "Why the heck are they hiding pictures of characters we've been watching for over 20 years?"

Ah well, no big deal. The sequel to "Alien vs. Predator" (which wasn't very good and therefore allows the sequel to seem superior by default) is being directed by Greg and Colin Strause, from a screenplay by Shane Salerno. Cast members include Reiko Aylesworth, John Ortiz, and Steven Pasquale. (And yes, the sequel does bring both beasties to modern-day Earth. Colorado, I believe.)

i won't be seeing ANY movie that involves Paul WS Anderson getting any kind of residuals. it's almost a no-brainer that hack will be getting some of whatever money this film makes (if it makes any) because of his involvement with the first one and he's probably singed on as a producer for this one. so i, for one, will not be seeing this, buying the DVD, or even renting it.

Geez... harsh words. This one'll be visual cotton candy. I think its kinda silly to not see a movie that will look this cool and have such ridiculous violence. We're all stupid Americans already, why not throw up a cheers and dig in?

If I want to see the alien and predator creatures at their best then I'll just watch "Alien", "Aliens", and "Predator".

One cannot take issue with your audacity, blorenze... One would love to, so that one may falsely label oneself as proud and patriotic.... but... (sigh)... one cannot. ;-)

I'm not trying to crush anyone's spirit here, but I find something inherently American about robust and absurd spectacle. You can retain your pride, patriotism, and pinache while occaisionally taking time to stare at something below you. I do it all the time, and I haven't choked on my tongue yet.

The first film was WWE with aliens. That's stupid on steroids. So yes, inherently American. But I simply can't sit through it again, blorenze. Seeing Sanaa Lathan's talent totally wasted in the first film on that caricature bullshit almost made me choke on my tongue. So it appears I'm not as immune as you. Call it my superhero weakness.

Those were not the first pics. We had pics and so did other sites months ago of the Armored Vehicle and other shots from the night shoot on location in B.C. That being said, at least this holds more potential than the last one thanks to the planned R rating. I have heard there is only one Predator but tons of Aliens and they do indeed fight in the city. Locales for shooting included a high school and a store.

That doesn't sound bad. But neither did the first one early on. It sounded so good that I refused to believe it was bad. Until of course.... I saw it.

AvP...Everyones a critic
I've been a fan of both the Alien and the Predator franchises since I was old enough to scream...(apart from Ressurection, which made me stamp on my own balls). The first AvP film was entertaining but it lacked any emotional connection with the victims. I don't know if anyone ever read the DarkHorse Comics of AvP but they were actually quite good, very bloody and had long story arcs.

I have also been actively on/off playing the AvP2 computer game for many years (yes, I do have a social life - drinking, women and ....well thats it actually). There are some very good stories and the games have been very faithful to the on screen monsters. Try playing it in the dark....running through vents..unable to see the keyboard keys whilst being chased by an alien..not fun.

Anyway, I'm really glad that the monsters are going R rated again. The guys directing it come from a visual background so in that respect its positive. Time will tell whether they can make us care about the "meat" in the film but who knows.

As for fans who prefer the Alien/Predator being in seperate movies, I can understand that, after all the first AvP was very diluted and had massive holes in the story. I'm not altogether happy about the animated aliens, I prefer the suit and puppets. The queen wasn't too bad though. The woman and pred getting together was a bit lame and seems to go against the predators nature of ripping out skulls (did we see any in the first AvP film?)

Positive things are: NO ANDERSON

NO ANDERSON

NO ANDERSON

Say no more!!

i guess i just don't care about certain details. like who produces and directs. cause ultimately it doesn't really matter if the end result is them bringing a comic i love to life on the big screen.
at least this alien vs predator is rated R. i don't know why they went with the PG-13 on the first. it seemed that a couple of years ago the studios were afraid of treading into the R-rated waters. so it'll be nice to see some good'ol blood and guts.
