Count Down Oscar History with RT's Best of the Best Pictures
We're kicking off a clear and sunny California Friday with a new feature: The Best of the Best Pictures, a convenient Tomatometer-sorted list of all 79 Best Picture Oscar winners. Where do your favorite (and least favorite) Best Picture picks rank? Click here to read the feature and find out!
Does "Forrest Gump" outrun "Chariots of Fire"? Is it "Patton" over "Platoon"? If you can't muster the energy to click the link and must know right now, we can tell you that last on the list is the rotten "The Greatest Show on Earth," rendering its title bitterly ironic. And in the top spot? "The Godfather", the one movie no one's ever been able to refuse.

Best Picture winner "Return of the King". Check out the rest of the winners.
And in the hallowed halls of Oscar glory, "Gone With the Wind" ranks in 17th place. Why are we telling you this? Because frankly, dear RT reader, we do give a...ah, just click here for the list and the rest of the results.

on Feb 16 2007 01:05 PM Agreed. Though not my favorite film, it is in my top 5. I do think it is the best overall film ever made.....The Godfather. I disagree with some of the list though....but...duh. We all will. I loved Forrest Gump. I didn't know the tomatometer was in the 70's. Kinda shocked. Now lets do a list of the films that didn't win an award and see which list is better. I am guessing the non best picture awards would reign supreme. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 17 2007 05:00 AM Yep, I bet the non-Oscar winners list would be better too. They snob so much it's not funny. The Golden Globes are much better. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 17 2007 11:35 AM In reply to this comment (#856093) I've always thought Goodfella's was a better gangster movie. More real, but really it's like comparing Michealangelo to Da Vinci. Both masterpieces. I was actually a little surprised they put "Sunrise" in there that high. When I think F.W. Murnau I always think "Nosferatu". Oh and Casablana as only the 10th best movie of all-time come on. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 17 2007 03:50 PM In reply to this comment (#856091) If the list was a full eighty. It would probably be hard to get a better top 40 among American films IMO. (Reply to this) |
