BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 25 2009 10:30 AM I honestly hope so... 'Slumdog Millionaire' does not deserve to add Best Picture from the Academy onto its list of award wins. So many more well developed and complex films out this year, it would be sad to see something so contrived win Best Picture (or even Best Adapted Screenplay, because it doesn't deserve that either). Still though, 'Juno' never had this much momentum, or this many wins, under its belt heading into Oscar night. It was never truly the frontrunner, and 'Slumdog' is definitely number one right now. Fingers crossed for 'Benjamin Button,' especially since the Academy gave away the spot destined from 'Dark Knight' to their goddamn Holocaust film weakness by nominating the lackluster 'Reader.' Sigh. (Reply to this) |

nathanpoitras writes: on Jan 25 2009 10:41 AM Wall-E was, is and will always be the best film of 2009. Slumdog's pretty good, but there are plenty of movies that are better, including Frost/Nixon, The Wrestler and The Dark Knight. (Reply to this) |

BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 25 2009 11:18 AM 'Wall-E' is far and away 2008's best film. Too bad it got regaled to the animated category for a sure-fire win, instead of really pushing for a Best Picture bid instead, and (possibly) walking away empty handed. Oh well, the Academy needs some serious reformation, and most especially in its voting system. Pronto. (Reply to this) |

Rishi G. writes: on Jan 25 2009 12:02 PM Congratulations to Slumdog Millionaire which continues bagging awards in every major awards event of the season. I'm sure it will scoop the best film at the Oscars too. Lets wait and see. The movie certainly needs to be seen by one and all who love cinema. This film just proves that a small film with no big stars can make it so big if made from the heart. I do hope the big studios look at slumdog's success and invest in these sort of films. RuSTeDs writes: on Jan 25 2009 12:37 PM Slumdog is an amazing film, unlike Juno which was hyped piece of crap. God Juno was awful and I don't see whats the fascination about it. A 16 year old that behaves like someone who's in her late 20's and has razor sharp wit and knowledge, who gets knocked up and gives the baby to some yuppie couple at the end? What farce! Slumdog deserves to win all the awards, including Best composer. (Reply to this) |

Or Golden Globes. glad to see "WALL-E" and "Man on Wire" winning, and "The Reader" getting nothing. And "30 Rock" and "The Colbert Report" are the best shows on television. (Reply to this) |

Warheart1188 writes: on Jan 25 2009 04:21 PM Slumdog doesn't deserve anything. It wasn't that great, and I don't care who says otherwise. TDK is being screwed over with these awards. It's all bull****. (Reply to this) |

Jude713 writes: on Jan 26 2009 11:25 AM In reply to this comment (#2281469) I really enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire and based on the movies I've seen, I'd say that's the best of the year. As for everyone's complaints about The Dark Knight not getting nominated, I thought it was a great movie that was well made, but there were definitely a few things in it that bothered me and, I think, prevents it from being best picture caliber. The last third of the movie was a little too concerned about shocking the audience and less concerned about making sense (spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it.... i.e. Gordon's "death" in front of tons of people, yet no one knew about it but Batman--and where did he come from, by the way, with that shotgun?.... or how about Two-face not caring about revenge on The Joker, yet wanting revenge on Gordon and Batman? I'd buy it if he had the same vendetta towards the Joker... but it just doesn't match up otherwise... or how about the entire ending--Batman needs to be a bad guy? How does that help a city who viewed him as just as much a hero at the beginning as they viewed Harvey Dent towards the end? Not to mention that's a terrible message--it's more important for people to have faith in a falsehood than understand the truth?) So yeah--The Dark Knight was a great movie--I'd definitely place it top 10 for 2008--but just too many faults to be best picture. (Reply to this) |

wafflesdiary writes: on Jan 26 2009 04:59 PM In reply to this comment (#2280738) actually slumdog's score doesn't rank near a lot of the other scores, some of which were not even nominated. I though I've Loved You So Long, Changeling, and Revolutionary Road (my favorite of this year) deserve best score far beyond any of the films that were actually nominated. I have no idea why Slumdog keeps sweeping awards from far better films, like Benjamin Button, Milk, and Frost/Nixon (The reader-- i dont know havent seen it yet). The happy ending alone was enough to make me question Slumdog (which i thought was horribly cliched and predictable, even if it was trying to style after bollywood films). It's a shame that so many films are being snubbed for this... (Reply to this) |

akatsuki writes: on Jan 27 2009 06:45 AM In reply to this comment (#2283790) Dude, you're so shallow. I won't refute most of your not-been-through-thoughts comments, it'll be better for you to think it out yourself. Shotgun, he was driving the truck with Harvey in it. Harvey had the gun pointed at Joker if you recalled. He left it on the coin toss to decide his fate, as with everyone else. and if you really understand the conversation they had in the hospital ward, you realize Joker made a lot of sense. For the final montage scene, if you do not get it, i seriously doubt your maturity...but do take sometime to think. And for people who thinks TDK should be the best pic this year, i would say otherwise. Although i'm also rather unhappy about it being snubbed, it deserves at least a nomination, not a win. Getting 8 nominations is no easy task either, root for it. (Reply to this) |
