Shot at a sold-out Madison Square Garden on October 9, 2004, the film features the cinematography of 50 lucky audience members, who were selected by the Beastie Boys to videotape the show from their very personal vantage points. The result is a hyper-frenetic and incredibly visceral experience, which thrusts viewers inside the arena and allows them to truly feel what it was like to be at the show. Backing up Mike D, Ad Rock, and MCA is the virtuosic DJ Mix Master Mike, who tears through the group's biggest rap joints without skipping a beat. When they disappear for a moment and reappear as a full-fledged rock band, it's keyboardist Money Mark who adds fuel to the fire. Being fans of old school hip-hop, the Boys also pay tribute to the past, bringing out the original human beat box, Doug E. Fresh, to deliver a jaw-dropping display of mouth-made percussion. The film is edited at a breakneck pace and incorporates hilarious post-production visual tactics, and director Nathaniel Hornblower (aka Adam Yauch) keeps the energy level at full-speed, resulting in a concert film that will have audiences rapping and singing along in their seats. Reviews for Awesome! I... Shot That!
The Beastie Boys relive their former glories in an inspired live performance at Madison Square Garden on October 9, 2004 where 50 members of the sold-out audience use handheld cameras to capture the show.
It's frustrating to see their cavorting so annoyingly chopped up and in such grainy images.
The shaky camerawork gets old quickly. So does the fan who filmed himself urinating.
My opinion of this unique and exciting concert flick may be influenced by the fact that I simply L-O-V-E the band, but really; who else was this movie made for except the old-school Beastie faithful?
