It's ping-pong played to the death in this balls-out comedy: Dan Fogler stars as pong child prodigy and Def Leppard-devotee Randy Daytona, whose defeat at the hands of a hissy East German (Thomas Lennon) during the 1988 Olympics forced him leave the world of ping-pong competition in disgrace. Randy's life is a shambles until he gets recruited by CIA agent (Barry Lopez) to infiltrate an ENTER THE DRAGON-style ping-pong tournament (to the death), run by an evil triad leader (Christopher Walken). First Randy needs to get back in shape; enter James Hong (BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA) as the blind ping-pong master Wang and Maggie Q as his sexy, kung fu-fighting niece. While FURY is a consistently funny comedy it also manages to sluly infuse some intelligence and compassion into its steady stream of genre spoofery and lowbrow crotch gags (similar in that sense to Mel Brooks' BLAZING SADDLES). Fogler has an engagingly scruffy underdog-style warmth and seems to really connect with the older pros like Walken and Hong; there's the sense everyone had a good time making this film, which carries over to the audience. Director Robert Ben Garant knows when to speed up the action and when to give his actors room to stretch out; the result is a generous spirit where all the cast is allowed to grab their share of the laughs. There's also some awesome Def Lepard tunes on the soundtrack, and Maggie Q is one smokin' hot babe. [More]

The reason Balls of Fury works as well as it does, aside from its low aspirations, is because of the charm of Fogler in the lead.

Proving that there is indeed truth in advertising, Balls of Fury is every bit as terrible as the advertisements would lead you to believe.

It's the kind of comedy that finds Asian people hi-lar-ious because they're...Asian. (Are you laughing yet?)

the insanely corny plot should appeal heavily, especially to audiences who grew up on awful late 80s, early 90s action movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme

There are...maybe 13 seconds of laughs in the movie. But, to be honest, they're good laughs.

Any movie that ends with Christopher Walken joining in a group singalong of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' deserves a little love.

Fogler resembles a hybrid of the late John Belushi and 'Superbad' co-writer and co-star Seth Rogen, with many of the funny parts missing, or at least muted.

It is a pretty remarkable feat when the most memorable thing about a feature-length movie is its vast collection of vintage Def Leppard t-shirts.

...this is two parts Blades of Glory and one part Enter the Dragon, though it's missing Will Ferrell's absurd improvisational humor and, well, Bruce Lee.

Balls of Fury is raunchier and somewhat more imaginative than Hot Rod, and it will be must viewing for Christopher Walken completists.

Too many scenes...are left to pitter out on screen with the punch-line power of a bad SNL sketch. It's no wonder that the humor in the film doesn't go past jokes about balls.

Has its moments, but a little too often the comedy runs into this problem of starting with the punchline and then chewing it until it runs out of flavor.

How much you'll enjoy Balls of Fury depends solely on whether you're into juvenile humor, groin shots, and pratfalls.

When [the jokes] should be riotously funny, they're merely amusing; when they should at least get a chuckle, they're just dead spots.

Balls of Fury is intended as a spoof of Enter the Dragon. That's important to know before walking into it, since it looks more like a spoof of the 80s martial arts spoof Big Trouble in Little China.

Thanks to a sloppy, anemic script and indifferent direction, 'Balls of Fury' lacks the stones to be genuinely entertaining.

While it's at times inspired, ultimately, its attempt to play with the conventions of both martial arts and sports films does not congeal into something memorable.
