Has Robert Rodriguez Picked His Barbarella?
Rose McGowan, Queen of the Galaxy?
by Jeff Giles | August 20, 2007
Discuss Article
The Robert Rodriguez remake of Barbarella won't be out for awhile, but its starring role is perfect for all kinds of nonsensical speculation, which is why we've been feeding you rumors about who might be stepping into Jane Fonda's old go-go boots on a semi-regular basis. First it was Kate Beckinsale (which the actress was quick to deny). Then it was Halle Berry. But if today's rumor is on point, Rodriguez is actually looking closer to home to fill the role.

According to a report at JoBlo, our new Barbarella will be none other than Grindhouse star Rose McGowan. Given that McGowan is Rodriguez' girlfriend, and has demonstrated the prerequisite va-va-voomishness in previous projects, her attachment to the project would make a certain amount of sense; in fact, as JoBlo points out, plenty of people have suggested this very thing. Now, according to the site's source, Rodriguez is getting ready to begin production -- and has already shot some test footage with McGowan.

Even if said footage has actually been shot, it doesn't mean McGowan has been given the part. But hey, it doesn't mean she hasn't, either.

i think she might be alright. she's definetly better for this role then Halle berry or Drew Berrymore (who had long ago been attached). I love beckinsdale though.

In think Charlize Theron would be a good Barbarella. Rose can't act.

But jmo2ski, this is barbarella! when has a role "performed" by Jane

fonda been remembered for its acting?! Hell, we seen jane fonda now ugly and old, thus

all we have left when we rarely see her act is the person who can't act and has a mostly

hated personal life. the only reason we ever cared about barbarella to begin with was

the sensual and sexy aspects of the titled actress. Thus, having a fine lady lke

Charlize who has top level talent that will hopefully produce a legendary career doesn't

need to associate herself with such dreck. now, on the other "actresses" such as a

Halle Berry, and a rose mcgowan are perfect to "act" in this sort of film! THERE are

smokin HOT and make men, like myself, drool and fantasize enough (more halle than rose,

obviously) TO FORGET THE FACT that THEY CAN'T ACT, or in Halle's case- forgot how!! hey,

i'm dissapointed that didn't considered the leading actress, for these type of films,

jessica simpson or hell jane fonda's last co-actress and acting peer jennifer lopez!

Rose Mcgowan for Barbarella? Sounds pretty good, I think!

I'd be surprised if this was true. Someone out at the rumor-mill must have realized that RR and Ms. Mcgowan were dating (..they are?) and thus determined that she would be an option.

Still though, I'd happily take her over Ms. Berry.

Rose is AmAzInG. She's a great actress and she's beautiful. I think she's perfect for any role she decides to do!
