Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Dexter Make AFI's 2007 Best-Of List
"According to Jim" was robbed! Robbed, we tell you!

If there's one thing the American Film Institute loves, it's a list -- and with the end of 2007 rapidly approaching, you know what that means: It's time to run down the AFI's favorite films and TV shows of the last year.

Variety published the list yesterday, as well as the date and location of the AFI Awards. If you're going to be at the Four Seasons on January 11...well, you probably won't be able to just stop on by, but at least you can say you were in the neighborhood when the following honors were being handed down:

FILM
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (88 percent)
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (94 percent)
Into the Wild (82 percent)
Juno (94 percent)
Knocked Up (90 percent)
Michael Clayton (90 percent)
No Country for Old Men (95 percent)
Ratatouille (97 percent)
The Savages (89 percent)
There Will Be Blood (95 percent)

TV
Dexter
Everybody Hates Chris
Friday Night Lights
Longford
Mad Men
Pushing Daisies
The Sopranos
Tell Me You Love Me
30 Rock
Ugly Betty

Wait, doesn't AFI normally just do American Films? What's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, a French film, doing there? Tell me if I'm wrong about AFI normally just doing American films, because I was under that impression.

"Ugly Betty" aside, pretty good list.

Just bought my parents the Dexter DVD for Christmas but don't know if they'll like it. They loved Six Feet Under and I did see one episode a week ago, excellent show.

props for including 'ratatouille' on the list. it's getting way less love than it should as one of THE best reviewed films of the year. i also like the inclusion of 'knocked up,' just for kicks.

but tell me you love me? show is whack. these voters must have been the same kind of sexually frustrated bores portrayed on the show.
sidenote: dexter finale last night was crazy!

I'm glad to see Before the Devil Knows Your Dead getting some love. One of my favorite movies and for being like 80 something Sydney Lumet did a great job directing.

Great I love Dexter and Pushing Daisies, hope they both come back again soon. No Country for Old Men was great, I have to go see Before the devil soon.

THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY is both an American film and French film. I think it has to do with financial backing.

I'm very happy that RATATOUILLE is on the list. Its the best film I've seen all year. (I'm yet to see JUNO and the other critically acclaimed movies.) Its too bad its not getting enough love lately.

French language etc., but American produced. For this reason it couldn't get an oscar nom. for Foreign Language Film. Tan pis.

I'm not quite sure I understand the lack of props being given -- by everbody -- to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Did people just not see it?

Ratatouille? Seriously? i mean, it was a fun animated family film, but you guys are acting like its a classic. and what's up with before the devil...? i dont know anyone who has seen it yet. if it was such a great film, why was it just a limited release?

Just finished the 1st season of Dexter. gotta admit, it's a pretty entertaining show.
