As soft-lit and saccharine as a Sugar Jones video, it tries to pass off sentiment as emotion and artifice as art.

Except for heartfelt performances by Sophia Loren and Pete Postlethwaite as her wheelchair-bound husband, Between Strangers is an awful cheat.

It is fabulously badly made, with rare weak performances from otherwise excellent actors ... and idiotic dialogue and events.
