Two comedic heavy hitters, Will Ferrell (ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY) and Jon Heder (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), join forces to push the boundaries of slapstick with their ice-skating farce, BLADES OF GLORY. Rival skaters Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) begrudgingly set out to attempt a historical comeback in the pair-skating program after being banned in the men's figure skating category after an unsportsmanlike scuffle. MacElroy's former coach (Craig T. Nelson) provides them with the tough-love coaching they so desperately need. Despite their absurdity, the duo aren't previous award winners for nothing, and their combined talent threatens the position of fellow American skating champions--brother and sister pair-skating team Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg, who are played by real-life husband and wife Will Arnett (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) and Amy Poehler (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE). But while Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg may turn on the charm for their adoring public, they reveal their true colors as they connive to sabotage Michaels and MacElroy in their efforts to regain the championship. Ferrell's turn as the loud-talking, ego-swelling, hard-partying sex-addict skater is an abrasive and shrilling contrast to Heder's innocent, cherub-faced prodigal son. Poehler and Arnett are splendid as the biting antagonists, and demonstrate a masterful understanding of how to portray characters full of spite and self-indulgence. BLADES OF GLORY is full of gut-busting wisecracks and painfully funny imagery, and will undoubtedly leave fans hoping that Ferrell and Heder will team up again for more hilarity and outlandish entertainment. Reviews for Blades of Glory
The result proves sadly under-choreographed. And choreography is everything in a film that leans as heavily on slapstick as this one.
this wacky comedy simply glides over the ice, never falling in the cracks or tumbling off course. Heder plays the angelic-faced blonde-mopped former child protégée ... and Ferrell is the sex addicted Tsunami of Swagger, thrown unwillingly together.
It's silly and fun with real figure skating personalities involved... they add a bonus dimension to the jokes (like throwing in a double toe-loop after landing a triple axle).
l'enjouement et la constance avec lesquelles cette connerie nous ait déblatérée la rendent désopilante pour les bonnes raisons
We'll keep tolerating Ferrell as long as he throws in a 'Stranger Than Fiction' or 'Elf' every now and again.
Exceeded my very low expectations...Despite the dry spells between genuine laughs, the movie feels over and done with, but doesn't really leave you wanting more. It's just right, and just a little flat.
Some of the laughs are inspired and big, and while you wish the movie was as cruel as you know the figure skating world really is, at least it isn't afraid of being silly.
You may need diapers (if you don't normally wear them) to view this.. Let the world rest a while and enjoy the silliness.
The comedy is disposable because Ferrell and Heder don't bother being recognizably human.
Solid formula that is guaranteed to tickle most everyone's funny bone several times
Cavorting on the ice in their elaborate figure skating costumes, Will Ferrell and Jon Heder made me laugh so much my stomach ached.
"Blades of Glory" will have Will Ferrell fans dizzy with laughter.Silly, uneven, but hilarious when it's funny, the show might remind his fans of "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
Roughly twice as good as a movie with such a thin comedic premise deserves to be.
After Ferrell's manchild partners with a fey figure-skating rival (Heder), it's strictly uninspired buddy-comedy bickering.
Will Ferrell is funny. Just looking at him makes you chuckle. Jon Heder is funny looking. Together, they make an amusing duo. And Blades of Glory is a funny film.
